2011 Football Spring Roster....to be announced?

Submitted by readyourguard on

I visited mgoblue.com to get some stats on players and was suprised to see no roster posted.  It simply states "Spring Roster To Be Announced."

I don't know if this is normal, post-season protocol or something to do with the CC.

This probably isn't thread-worthy, so mods, delete if you deem necessary.

Probably just updating it.  I doubt it has anything to do with the coaching change other than an update. I remember that even after Hoke was hired, RR and all his staff was still listed at the bottom of the page.  Maybe they just waited until after signing day to update it all at once.

on Greg Brown?  Some good jerseys out there...

I'm also curious to see if Hoke's going to curb all of the coveting of single digit numbers that went on the last few years.  I swear we had like three kids wearing an 80-something, and yet there were about twelve #5's or #9's on the roster.

(yes, I am inflating the numbers to prove a point.)

Duplicate numbers have always been an issue since there's over 100 kids on the team and not enough numbers to go around.    But I don't ever recall seeing so many duplicates on the field in a game.

Back in my day (insert old man jokes here), if two guys had the same number and both were going to get major PT, one of them was switched.  The new number was likely shared with a player who didn't see significant time.

But during the last coach's era (see what I did there?), there seemed to be this overwhelming demand for single digit numbers, which was really just 2-9 since the #1 is exclusive property.

Call me crazy, but if I had to choose between being one of three #6's or being my very own, say, #36, I'd want to do my own thing.

The game was Sept. 25, vs. Bowling Green.

Avery wears #5 as a result of that penalty.  Previously he wore the 9.  He took the 5 that was vacated by Vladimir Emilien earlier that month.

And according to the then-head football coach:
"I screwed that up," Rodriguez said. "I should have noticed that."  -- Toledo Blade

it was BG. That game had so many emotional swings.. denard owns the world. denard gets hurt. Devin looks good but his sweet td pass gets called back lewan being lewan. The first time ive ever seen a flag for players having the same # on the field at the same times. defense looks good in the beginning but then the holes show up right before half. tate comes out in the second half and goes 14-14. denard jumps around on sideline. the world is good again.

Duplicate numbers have always been big, and not just at Michigan.  Even before RR, a lot of defensive players wore single digits - Woodson (obvi) and Crable both rocked #2, Marlin was #3, I remember some other linebackers (Hobson maybe?) rocking single digits as well.  I think it's cool.

I'm assuming Big Will's a DT. If we have BW, QWash and RVB at DT then we're able to make a 3-deep. Scary, I know.

Furman and Cam could be interesting though. I think Cam is destined to be an OLB but Furman's got an interesting mix of speed and athleticism to go with some size. Will be interesting to see what the coaches want to do with that.

I'm really interested in Furman as well. I think the prevailing thought is to bulk him up and play as a really fast OLB. I'm starting to wonder if maybe he should give him a try at FS, considering the exit of the tweener positions. He has the speed and size, unlike anyone else in recent memory. I would really like a fast FS with height. Is that too much to ask?

Furman came here to bulk up and be a LB. He is not a SS much less a FS. He is too big and lumbering back there. He has speed and athleticism, elite for a LB, poor for a S. He isn't smooth enough in coverage and such. It'd be like Ernest Shazor back there(I have nightmares about him in coverage still) except as a FS instead of strong, so worse.

Furman should be a good one. If he and Jones both look good along with Ryan, I still like the idea of Cam going to offense. Next year, we are going to be thin at WR. We recruited none this year, 4 graduate and Miller will be a TE. Guys like Williamson,Jackson and Robinson are unproven and the rest are slot types. Gordon and Roundtree at WR in a WCO would be nasty.  Put Miller,Barnett,Moore and a blocking type in the TE rotation.

Any chance of Furman switching back to offense? With the way Hoke is recruiting more natural linebackers, I don't recall Furman ever playing DB before, I figured he would be a nice combo of size and speed at RB. Maybe Hopkins moves to FB? Just a thought....

It probably means the whole team has died of a muscle disintegrating, kidney mushifying, brain coagulating, penis frying disease. Once they get a whole new 85 players they'll put it back up.
