2009 Pistons

Submitted by Northern Fan on
Anyone else impressed with the Pistons play as of late? I find this team a lot of fun to watch, enough to almost buy the NBA League Pass because I live in Florida. We finally have an offensive presence on th court. Kuesters doing a great job working our lineup to see what gels. Our current lineup: PG Stuckey SG Atkins SF Jerebko PF Maxiell C Wallace Gordon and Villanueva are back and playing well Are you kidding me...4 straight wins and 5 out of 6. Beating ATL, WASH, MIL, PHI and DEN in the last two weeks. The next four are possible wins as well. To be doing this with the lineup above and without our veterans of Prince and Hamilton, with a limb foot Gordon and broken nose Villanueva. Those guys have missed 44 games this season combined and we are sitting at 10-12 (3rd in our division)! WOW!! I am not saying we are a number one seed in the Eastern Conference but I can tell you this much...glad Curry is gone! GO PISTONS!! What pieces are still needed to be back in the Eastern Conference? PG Stuckey Bynum (need back) SG Hamilton Gordon SF Prince Jerebko PF Villanueva Maxiell Wilcox (?) C Wallace (?) 2010-11 Starting lineup: w/ Camby!!! Look to move Hamilton at end of 2009 or in off season. PG Stuckey SG Gordon SF Prince PF Villanueva C Camby/Wallace (if he resigns)

And it definitely takes time to have a whole new group of guys come together. I personally like watching Will Bynum as much as Gordon and Stuckey. As much as I love Rip on the stones, he does take away time from the young future players. If we could trade Rip for a big man, a la Tyson Chandler, I think we'd be better off.

has impressed me - I was not happy at all with the pick - but so far so good with him. I'm most impressed with the team getting some tough wins with Rip and Tay hurt. I don't think this is a great team, but a low playoff seed seems very possible.

that Ben Gordon being gone is a good thing. The Pistons are 4-9 when Ben Gordon plays more than 30 minutes and 6-3 in games where he plays less (or not at all.) If you're wondering if thats skewed by blowouts its not. There was a loss to Phx and a win vs Memphis, so 5-2 when Gordon can't play a full game due to injury. The only loss in the last 6 games was when Gordon played over 30 minutes.

is a real headfuck. The more starters they lose to injuries, the more they win. I like the attitude of this crew we've had playing the last couple games. They are HUNGRY. That's exactly why they're winning right now.

It reminds me of the 2004 Roster with: Williamson James I loved those two guys when they came in the game, they were good for steals, rebounds, easy baskets and fouls when they had to. I haven't see this fight in us since 2004, we had lost a lot of toughness in our lineup and the grit it takes to win games. We want it more!!

Scoreless Williamson? Sure, he got easy shots, he just didn't make them. :p I have been really impressed with them lately. Stuckey has been amazing the last four games or so, and I am excited about his future. Villanueva in the post has been great. I think he is taking a horrible shot, yet it almost always goes in. I don't know what happened to Big Ben in Chicago and Cleveland, because this is definitely looking like the same guy from the 2004 team. Jerebko has been very impressive, especially compared to where he was drafted, and Daye and Summers seem to have some potential too. I love to see Maxiell starting; he was so underused last year. This team has been fun to watch, and the last few games, they seem to have eliminated that one terrible quarter that was killing them early in the season.

for not giving into Ben's request for $15 mil a year and letting him go to the bulls. Now we have him back for the league minimum and he's back to a defensive player of the year caliber player.

What the hell? The lack of discussion as to their injuries and possible return is somewhat mysterious. And when they do come back (if), they will be returning to a team that has created and defined itself in their absence. It will be strange to see how either adjusts to whatever role will remain when and if they return. With every day that passes, I begin to suspect more and more that there is a problem between them and management. Hamilton seemed to take serious exception with the Billups-Iverson trade, and Prince's injury is not acute but chronic, correct? If he is incapable of playing right now, what they hell different is another week or another month going to do. Hell, this injury was a problem last year, and the off-season provided no relief, right? I almost expect that neither of these players will see the court again as a Piston. I too am enjoying this team's progress, but I can't help but wonder what is going on with these guys.

-I think everybody on this team is tough & plays Detroit style ball so thats why everybody loves them. -The future looks good with the guys we have signed & the rookies we have drafted & the other young guys and surprises like Will Bynum being more than anyone ever expected. -Chicago is getting showing just how good Ben Gordon is with their inability to win without him. -I hope Joe can work some magic and get some deals done for both Prince(if he comes back ok, back injuries like that are serious business) & Hamilton. They are both damn good players with trade value if the right team can come along. -Ben Wallace is definitely doing something remarkable. What a bargain for a million. I thought he was going to play garbage minutes and barely contribute. If they can keep him healthy and for the same price another year teaching these young guys would be nice.

I've been impressed with Jerekbo. I like Tay a lot but Jerekbo's hustle is exciting and he doesn't hold the ball the way Tay does. There are nights where he will be a better match-up than Tay given his better athleticism.

Jerebko/Prince Wow, another Prince with a little less "D" but better offensive skills each and every night. Hard to sit the kid!! Prince in 02-03: 5 Starts 3.3 Pts 10 minutes Jerebko 09-10: 19 Starts 8.0 Pts 5.5 Rebs 27 minutes WOW, didn't see this coming out of the 2nd Round!! Will take it!!

said that he graded Daye, Summers and Jerebko at 1st round. They provide versatility and brings different skills to the table which is nice. Daye is more of a shooter while Summers is more of a physical slasher and Jerebko brings toughness and hustle. They all can play 2 different positions, in Jerebko case, he can play 3.

Is that Keuster has been excellent. With a poorer coach this team could have absolutely imploded by now. He could be one of the better acquisitions Joe has made.
