2007 recruits gone

Submitted by preed1 on
Players that have transfered, left, or entered the nfl draft from 2007...Ryan Mallet, Tony Clemons, Donovan Warren, Artis Chambers, Vince Helmuth, Avery Horn, Zion Babb. This has hurt Michigan in 2008, 2009, but how bad will it still affect 2010. Im hoping not much, but we will see. PS Donavon Warren is the only cool person on the list, kinda.

I have no problem at all with the OP -- repetition in Board posts just means a given topic is something people continue to muse about. But it's really very helpful to add links to some of the better past threads on a given topic. Those two are real gems that I missed originally, so thanks for posting them.

posted above strongly assist in my utilization of logic in regards to Rich Rod and Michigan Football in general. Especially when you are talking to someone about Michigan football who has only gotten their news from and formed opinions based on ESPN, the freep, etc. I was being sarcastic in calling this thread part 3. I found humor in the contrast of informative information between this thread and the diaries that Misopogon created. However, you are correct that topics are repeated because they are important and people enjoying musing on them. The work Misopogon did is truly golden though. I imagine reading those diaries would be like figuring out why your parents got divorced and realizing it wasn't yours or Rich Rod's fault. At least, not all your fault.

It's unbelievable how unproductive this class was. At the time, we were coming off a Rose Bowl season in which we came thisclose to playing for the National Championship. Ryan Mallett transferring was unfortunate, but necessary to the progress of RichRod's offense. Still, you would think that we would have at least gotten a little more out of this class just by raw talent alone.

RR has to work around http://rivals.yahoo.com/michigan/football/recruiting/commitments/2007 There should be more contributors from a class in its 4th year than just: Van Bergen Molk Woolfolk (lower range of 3*) Huyge (sleeper 2* at time of commitment) Hemmingway (oft-injured) On the bright side, the roll-off/roll-on of departing contributors/new contributors has to be a very strong net positive over the next couple of years. From the productive 2006 class, the contributors with a fifth year of elgibility remaining are Schilling Ezeh Mouton Dorrestein http://rivals.yahoo.com/michigan/football/recruiting/commitments/2006

Avery Horn played this past year at Reedley College. Rumor is that he wants to transfer to Fresno State, which might have playing time to offer with a running back or two heading to the NFL. Not sure about Babb.

I don't have a problem with Vince Helmuth's departure. His fullback position was all but eliminated, and he wasn't getting any run on the defensive line. But he didn't make a big deal about it when he left.

All but Clemens left with class. Obviously Mallett made the right decision, Helmuth, Chambers, Horn and Babb were buried on the depth chart at the time of their departure. I'm sure Chambers is regretting his decision... us too. he possibly could of been the answer at box safety last year. However, his MAC destination may suggest otherwise.

If this had been a normal Michigan recruiting class, there would be far more contributors (as true seniors or redshirt juniors) than we'll be seeing in 2010. What was, in retrospect, a bit of lousy recruiting will hurt Rodriguez and Michigan at least a little this year and less the following year. Hopefully not fatally... Lloyd's last class of '08 (plus the snake-oil additions) looks promising at this point. '05, '06, and '07 were mediocre at best.
