2007 Michigan @ MSU game on BTN right now

Submitted by WingsNWolverines on

The game that gave Sparty their nickname is on BTN right now and it's one of my favorites in the series vs lil bro. Spartans out early 3-0. Will the Wolverines avoid the upset? I'd like to think so! Some stats from this game Henne 4 TDs passing 18/33 211 total yards Hart 15 carries for 115 yards Manningham 8 receptions for 129 yards and 2 TDs REMINDER. Michigan day is on Thursday on BTN.

Funny story

I was on the U-M bowling club team as a freshman and we went to a tournament in Cincinnati that morning. As soon as we were done, we went to an Ohio bar and asked them to put on the U-M/MSU game just in time to see the last TD grab with a few minutes left.

Got some weird looks there with our Michigan bowling shirts on and stuff.

Thanks for the 20 minutes of distraction at work trying to figure out which fellow Michigan bowler is "BeileinBuddy".  My guess is initials SV?  Hey kids, if you want to miss a bunch of football games, join the bowling team, you miss half the Saturdays in the fall!  Great recruiting pitch!

I remember catching the last few minutes of the big Wisconsin comeback of 2008 on radio as we left the bowling alley.  Almost drove off the road.

I was a little ticked at halftime because we should have been up 21-3, but we went extra conservative just before the half and wasted some excellent field position. In a rivalry game, you just know that's leaving the door open for your opponent to get back in the game, which was exactly what happened. After Manningham's catch, there's so many great shots of the crowd looking absolutely crushed.

Yes this game was NOTHING like the other 120 games Lloyd coached where he put his foot on the throat of other teams and pressed the advantadge whenever he had it.  Yes sir.....if there's one thing I cherished about Coach Carr was his ability to maximize the talent he had assembled by turning loose the players and not holding them back through uber-consertative play calling.  Especially in big games you knew Lloyd would come out gunning and wouldnt let up until the game was so far out of reach the other team had no hope of coming back.

That pass to Mathews to get the game to 24-21 is one of the prettiest passes I have ever seen. I have a signed football helmet from Chad Henne and every time I see him do something like that I am immensely proud. I watched him win a lot of games in person - this one, at ND, Penn State to Manningham, Florida - and wish he had beaten Ohio in that 1 vs 2 game in Columbus. Dude deserved it - great Michigan man.

the year that could have been. Would have loved to beat Wisconsin a team we should have KILLED yet laid a massive egg against and of course that horrific OSU game in the end of the year. 3 losses that never should have been. As for Oregon they whooped our ass but the B10 title was so close in our grasp. Yet was so far.

I remember getting "constructive criticism" on everything from my visor to how bad the play calling Michigan was executing.....I took for it for 59.5 minutes until I stood up an thanked all of them for their hospitality and politely let them know Michigan was demonstrating a play they were not familiar....Victory Formation.

It is sad to know what the future holds for those non senior players...they look so happy celebrating the win...if they only knew what is ahead.

Also...Henne falling while jumping under the goal post while leaving the field is pretty funny.

Some of the more intriguing statistical aspects of the game, as I recall, is that our 3rd down efficiency was actually not very good - I think we converted perhaps three in that game out of 13 or 14 opportunities, far below our season average, which was around 40%.

I seem to remember that we had fewer total offensive yards than Michigan State, albeit by a slight margin, and Mike Hart and Brandon Minor were the only two with positive net rushing yards. Fortunately, we were doing just fine overall in the air.

That was six straight over MSU though - that felt good, and as someone mentioned, it was glorious to hear "It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine" in Spartan Stadium. Excellent memories indeed.

Nov 3, 2007...the date of my wedding.

Yes, there were people keeping me up to date on all the action. Yet I didn't get a chance to watch the game until a year ago.

What an amazing day/game!
