2004 UM-MSU Game highlights

I had forgotten how much i enjoyed this game. Still one of my favorites in the rivalry. Almost the entire game was a highlight reel, especially when considering the performances of Chad Henne, Mike Hart, and Braylon Edwards. This is the kind of intensity and determination I hope Michigan brings Saturday. A determined team who would not accept defeat. I'll never forget that game. It was the day before Halloween. As my dad and I were walking to the stadium, it was hard not to notice how windy it was outside and I was nervous that was going to affect the game. 4:30 start...I believe that's the latest a game has ever started at the big house. We had great seats but sat in the wrong endzone. Only one touchdown was scored in front of us - Mike Hart's score in the first quarter. All of Braylon's magic happened on the other side of the field. Fans were pleading and screaming all game for Carr to finally throw the deep ball, and once we got down 27-10 in the 4th quarter, it happened. Sat very close to MSU's band and if I had to hear their fight song one more time, I was going to shoot myself. The huge clump of Spartan fans several rows up chanted, sang and taunted us when they were up 17. I thought we were finished until we recovered the onside kick. Couldn't tell if Tim Massaquoi caught the 2 point conversion - had to watch the crowd's reaction to find out. The stadium noise was unreal. I looked up in the sky and couldn't help but be amazed that we were playing a home game under a pitch black sky. After the final play, everyone was screaming, high fiving and hugging. I literally turned around and hugged the guy sitting behind me. Probably thought I was a nut but he hugged me back. Then I had to catch my breath and sit down because I felt like I was going to pass out. Something I'll never forget.

my son, who was 2 at the time, was going on his 4th week at Toledo Children's hospital after a pretty serious surgery. He had just gotten out of intensive care and put in a regular room. Across the hall was another small child and his parents were them with him like every other parent was. The dad was wearing an Ohio State shirt, and he was just going nuts and cheering every time Michigan State scored. It was so annoying, if it wouldn't have been for the circumstances that put us so close together I would have went over and punched him in the face. It got better though as Michigan kept coming back. He got quieter and quieter and I'll never forget the look on his face right after Michigan finally won and I walked out of my son's room wearing my Michigan shirt with a huge smile on my face.

It was my senior year of high school. The weather was nasty. My cross country team won the regional championship that day. Then we went to my house to celebrate and watch the game. My high school was about the same distance from both UM and MSU, so it was an even split at my party. However, the power went out because of the awful weather. The State fans were sure it was over, but us Michigan fans got a battery powered radio and listened to the awesome that would unfold. It was one of the most memorable days I can remember.

My brother had tickets to this game, but for some God-forsaken reason decided not to go (I think maybe because of the impending bad weather? I don't recall). Anyways, he decided not to go to the game and what happens? Well, we all know what happened. BRAYLON EDWARDS HAPPENED. To this day if I mention that game he'll get this disappointed look in his face and just kind of shake his head, "I can't believe I didn't go to that game."
