2001 Citrus Bowl on B1G, I mean, Big Ten Classics

Submitted by Bag of Marbles on

Remember when our running backs were 6'2" 230 lbs? Remember when we had a No. 1 wide receiver?

Remember when the big ten logo didn't suck?

Oh wait, that was as of 2 days ago.

How is it possible that this machine of an offense failed so miserably in the NFL?

  • Henson - started a couple games, otherwise a total bust at two sports
  • Terrell - first WR with two 1000 seasons, total bust in the NFL
  • Walker - best hands I had ever seen at WR besides Jason Avant and never got past the practice squad for a couple teams
  • Thomas - a couple of solid seasons, but pretty lack luster for the all time leading rusher

Only the OL had any real success.

Not to sound like a douche, but in those highlights it's obvious why Walker didn't succeed. He lacked serious speed, on that slant the corner got picked. He had a good angle a lot of field to work with and probably had at least 5 to 10 yards of separation, and couldn't take it to the house.

I think if he would've stayed on one season and been drafted, his career would've taken a totally different angle.  Instead, he sat out a few years and never had a chance after that.  QB is not a position you can just come off the street and play in the NFL.  Even Kurt Warner cut his teeth in the Arena League before he made the jump.

by the time thomas hit the NFL, he had over 900 carries on his body.  thomas never ran around people either, so those were 900 serious carries.  playing for 4 years has to make a difference too, just on the accumulated practice wear and tear.
