2 people dead (with a report saying one likely the suspect) in shooting at Va. Tech

Submitted by translator82 on

Edit (4:50 p.m.): NBC Washington (WRC-TV) reporting that the second deceased victim is likely the suspect. Cops at Va. Tech presser won't comment on whether second deceased person is the suspect, but a weapon was found near that victim's body. No other incidents reported on campus, the school's website has said it's OK to "resume normal activities."

Hope they catch the killer before he does any more damage. Just rotten luck not only for the victims but for all the VT people who have to go through this again.

This is atrocious, hope nothing more happens.

Thoughts and prayers with all of you down there. From a city that has had 2 similar incidents in recent memory, 2 too many

Listening to the police blotter is so surreal, there are so many reports coming in and the cell towers are jammed up i'm sure from people calling their kids, thoughts go out to the two victims families, hopefully there are no more casulties.

Terrible news.  My son considered VaTech among other schools, but is at UM.  It is ridiculous that something like this is happening at the same school again.

VaTech student newspaper is offline, but is tweeting updates.  @CollegiateTimes

Are you kidding me! White male with a backpack gets out of his car during a traffic stop , shoots and kills a cop. Makes his way toward a parking lot on campus, shoots and kills another. He is now running loose at the same VT campus that dealt with one of the worst school shootings in history just 4 yrs ago. "This happens everywhere"? Really? How many  times has his happened at any school/campus you've ever been a part of?

After April, the school made concerted efforts to improve security alerts which let students know of any activity on campus. So that is good to hear.

Hopefully they catch the culprit.

All thoughts and love and prayers to the families of the victims and to the entire Virginia Tech family. They should not have to deal with this so soon after the previous tragedy. Best wishes, and hopefully they pull through this with no further injury.

After listening to the Virginia Tech press conference with school officials and lead officers, it seems that this is an apparent murder/suicide.  The suspect walked up to an officer in his car while he was performing a traffic stop and shot the officer (the suspect was not involved in the traffic stop).  He then fled to a separate parking lot roughly 1/4 miles away where he was seen by another officer.  When the officer moved to question the individual, he apparently turned the gun on himself and commited suicide.
