1997 U-M football championship ring offered on Ebay
Detroit News staff
An unknown player from the 1997 Michigan national championship
It can be purchased now for $5,999.99 or you can make a bid. There have been eight bids made thus far, but the money offered has not been posted.
The auction closes on July 12 at 5:30 p.m.
Obviously the ring is up for bid because of Rich Rod. His constant disregard for the rules and hatred for alumni has caused a 1997 member to no longer want to be associated with a national champion.
.......This is sarcasm right?
to make that assumption... although it wouldn't be the dumbest thing ever posted here if it weren't sarcasm.
yes. unless its true. then its insider information.
If I had finished my third year in investment banking, a portion of my bonus would have absolutely gone to buy this.
That being said, if I were to buy it - I'd have to know which player it belonged to - or else you don't have jack for a story if you ever try to sell it (not to say that I would, but I'd have to know). Presumably, this could be a coach / assistant ring and thus less valuable.
[Edit - reading the description it says "PLAYERS NAME APPEARS ON SHANK WITH ENAMELED WOLVERINE HELMET !"]
6K is a little out of my price range...but damn maybe I can sell my car and take the bus for a while....
Sad to see someone selling something like this, but with the economy being what it is, I'm not surprised that someone is doing it. Not every player gets into the NFL.
But every player has an opportunity to earn a Michigan degree.
Graduate!
Maybe a player or coach having financial problems pawned it with the hope of buying it back.
Can you get your money back?
$6000? I'm not sure... that sounds a little steep. I'll have to go to Rick and Chumley and ask them to have it appraised before I buy it.
I just watched the episode where they bought a trainer's or admin's Miami Championship ring for $9000. They would have been looking to sell for around $16k, I expect. I don't know how much less college football championship rings are worth (fewer diamonds and more rings are made for a football team vs. basketball). We can assume this is not a big name player, but that's still better than a trainer or admin's ring.
In my opinion (i.e. my guess) 3-5K is more the range for this ring.
Not trying to give any tuoOS creeps any ideas, but if:
- that were an Ohio State NC ring, and
- I had a hell of a lot of disposable income...
I gotta believe I would buy that, melt it down, and shape it into a Block M.
Sell itand buy M stuff with it, obviously.
Smash it. Smash it more. Grind it up.
Then I'd put it in my pipe and smoke it.
Just tried to click the link listed on another blog site and ebay says the listing was taken down.
I clicked just now and it says the ring was bought for $5250.
Also, the dude who is selling the ring (T.J. - Turkey Jizz??) should have someone proofread his auctions before making such declarative statements as (emphasis mine):
WHEN YOUR DEALING WITH TJ YOUR DEALING WITH EXPERIENCE - INTEGRITY - KNOWLEDGE & HONESTY !
You can buy all sorts of championship rings online through the website http://championship-rings.net
A quick search for "Michigan Wolverines" brings up some past UM rings that were available but are no longer in stock. The only one you can still puchase is a 1971 B10 Champs ring.
P.S. I'm sure you'll be excited to know that you can in fact purchase a player's ring from the 2003 Alamo Bowl where MSU was the victor. Just what I've always wanted!
MSU lost the 2003 Alamo. Their last bowl win came under Bobby Williams.
... to Pete Carroll. I would prefer to earn it legitimately.
Any thoughts on whose ring it could be???
I am sure it is an assistant coach or bench warmer.
It appears to be Scott Loeffler's Ring
