1997 National Championship celebration at Crisler

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Something I've been looking for for years. I finally tracked down a copy of it.

The 1997 National Championship celebration held at Crisler Arena that took place days after Michigan won the Rose Bowl. A parade downtown took place during the day and then they held this.

Plenty of shots taken at Nebraska and the coaches poll during this. And even Tennessee, too.

Would love to hear from those who were there.

I hope we can have another one of these soon.

Has reduced the Michigan program and its pathetic fan base to. Having to go back 20 years to find something to be proud of, and even then it was not all UM's. The best part of this is that it does remind all the OSU and MSU fans just how sad and pathetic the UM program has become.

I got to walk right outside my dorm and watch the parade. I attended the rally/celebration at Crisler. It was all an amazing experience. I still can't believe that was over 18 years ago. I would love to get a chance to experience it all again soon...

...but didn't go. I'll never forget the day they won though. Watched the game at Skeepers, then marched down South U after. Was a peaceful celebration.... no couches harmed as I recall.

Nice memory and hope to relive that again soon.  And thanks again to peyton manning for getting crushed in the Orange Bowl vs. Nebraska and allowing them to get half of the NC during the tom osborne farewell tour.

Rudock has beaten Florida more times than peyton manning has!

If we'd done to #8 Washington St. what #2 Nebraska did to #3 Tennessee, we wouldn't have shared the NC.

Hanging on in a game against Ryan Leaf that went down to the final seconds while Nebraska kicked Tennessee's ass up and down the field opened the doors up for Nebraska.

All Tennessee and manning had to do was show even a pulse against Nebraska and we would have not had a split vote, but they couldn't even do that.

For all those Vols fans who say that Woodson didn't deserve to win the Heisman over Manning, that Orange Bowl is the rebuttal.  In the biggest game, Woodson stepped up while Manning disappeared.

Thanks for bringing back some memories, WD. I do have panaromic photos from the parade somewhere in my college box of stuff. Someday I should digitize them to share.

There are people on this blog who will neg WD even if he announced that it was his wedding day. He would get negged if he broke the news that Harbaugh would be allowed to hold satellite camps anywhere he wanted. Not likely to ever happen unless St. Nick came back to Staee as head coach, but again, thats really not likely.

Season ticket holders could only (maybe even enter a lottery) ask for two tickets, so my parents went and left us kids at home. Strangely enough there was a CD of the audio that they sold at MDen, it's a real weird artifact of that day.

I always thought it was weird that Woodson brought out his son/nephew? with a jersey on and just wore a tshirt instead...

One day we could have a "what would you give for a national championship?" thread.

Shit, I'd be over the moon with happiness for a B1G Championship. It's been far too long.

I don't know how I'd handle a national championship. In any big 3 sport. I probably wouldn't sleep for a day and a half.

...that season was magical. No other way to describe it. Beat down of Notre Dame, Woodson interception against State, Iowa comeback, man-handling of a very good Penn State Team, Ohio State Game (storming field), clinching BIG, Woodson Heisman, dominant D, Rose Bowl win, Nationa Chanpionship, Maize & Blue all over LA, post-Game party with football team and Desmond Howard, victory parade and ceremony in A2. Senior year completely played out better than I ever could have imagined.

I forgot a kid I went to highschool with was on that team. I never understood how he made the team as a walk on because he was just an average nobody player in highschool.

Went to the celebration with the flu. My Dad didn't take me seriously when I told him I felt like crap. I think it might have had to do with the fact he was pissed he had sold off his season tickets that year since we needed the money and Michigan hadn't reallt been too great the last few seasons.
