1997 Heisman Trophy
Since its Heisman week i thought id post Michigans past Heisman winners. In 97 Charles Woodson entered the season a First Team All-american and was a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award. He was joined by Peyton Manning, Ryan Leaf (lol), and Randy Moss. Woodson won the award with 1815 votes beating Manning by about 300 votes making him the first and still to this day the only primarily defensive player to win the Heisman. He finished his career with 18 interceptions, 25 pass break-ups, 1 sack, and 7 tackles for loss including 173 yds rushing 2 tds, and 402 yards receiving 3 tds in only 3 years.
#2 Michigan Legend GO BLUE!!!

I totally forgot about Curtis Enis, who got hurt in the pros and never did anything but was pretty scary in college.
And look at little Tim Couch, future #1 bust along with #2 bust Ryan Leaf.

Cade McNown look pretty good for UCLA.
p.s. Playmate Heather Kozar should have made the TOP TEN list for Heisman that year too.
She got passed from Couch to McNown back to Couch

Interesting, the voting wasn't really super close. I always assumed it was like a 50 vote margin given how Tennessee fans were screaming bloody murder.

Based on the title, I thought you were going to post an eBay link to bid on the '97 Heisman. That means Charles is not broke, and I'm a happier person now.

No worries at all. It's just second nature around here to assume PANIC, then be relieved to find out it's a non-panic situation!

Sweet. More reminders that this program was great in the 90s but sucked since then. Thanks.

I hope you go away soon. Your comments are becoming... "stale".

I get it!

Cmon everytime i post past seasons its the same responce. Get over it!! Theres nothing wrong with looking back at our storied history. Im not trying to remind people of how much better we used to be just trying to bring up good memories after a dissappointing season. Its a reminder that we have won before and we can do it again. Were Michigan Forgodsakes!!

Well, memories of teams from 10+ years ago do absolutely nothing for me or the current football program, so that is why I'm tired of it. I used to not pay attention to the Michigan haters who always claim that we live in the past, but it's true.

No fan base in America looks in the rear view mirror more than Michigan fans

Notre Dame fans are also hung-up on their past glory, granted they made the title game last year, but that is the exception to an otherwise mediocre 20 years.

The offseasons gonna be full of these videos so i suggest u go away till August

Manning had a great career, but I don't think he should have been 2nd in the voting.

I think it's pretty remarkable that 3 of the top 4 finishers in the Heisman voting are going to end up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Forgot how stacked the '97 Heisman lineup was. Those were some good players there.

The best highlight of Woodson's whole performance that year was the dumbfounded look on David Boston's face when ABC's broadcast focused on him for a few seconds after the punt return TD.

So Drew Sharpe voted for Amos Zereoue to win.

I remember listening to this on the radio live. I've never seen my dad happier until weeks later when we won the Rose Bowl.
