1997 Heisman Trophy

Submitted by goblue16 on

Since its Heisman week i thought id post Michigans past Heisman winners. In 97 Charles Woodson entered the season a First Team All-american and was a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award. He was joined by Peyton Manning, Ryan Leaf (lol), and Randy Moss. Woodson won the award with 1815 votes beating Manning by about 300 votes making him the first and still to this day the only primarily defensive player to win the Heisman. He finished his career with 18 interceptions, 25 pass break-ups, 1 sack, and 7 tackles for loss including 173 yds rushing 2 tds, and 402 yards receiving 3 tds in only 3 years.

Cmon everytime i post past seasons its the same responce. Get over it!! Theres nothing wrong with looking back at our storied history. Im not trying to remind people of how much better we used to be just trying to bring up good memories after a dissappointing season. Its a reminder that we have won before and we can do it again. Were Michigan Forgodsakes!!

Well, memories of teams from 10+ years ago do absolutely nothing for me or the current football program, so that is why I'm tired of it. I used to not pay attention to the Michigan haters who always claim that we live in the past, but it's true.

The best highlight of Woodson's whole performance that year was the dumbfounded look on David Boston's face when ABC's broadcast focused on him for a few seconds after the punt return TD.
