1996 Michigan at Ohio State

Several shots of Mattison on the sideline as Michigan held OSU to a single digit, without a touchdown and scoreless in the second half.

Feel free to upload anything relevant to Hoke/Mattison/Borges as frequently as possible, I don't have anything to do until September.

I was not a Michigan fan back in '96, but just looking at the record/results of the '96 season reminds me of last season. Phenomenal player in his sophomore year, close win vs. Indiana, middle of the road team that is young. Of course the OSU game and bowl game don’t match up at all, which is why RR got fired.

OSU fans grumble that we only won because Shawn Springs slipped.  They forget that they still held the lead after that, 9-7.  We controlled the game in the second half.

This is one of my favorite games ever.  An old-school Michigan-OSU game.  Only one TD was scored all day.

"Pickle penetrated."

Okay, his name was "Fickell", but that's what I heard, and I'm sticking to it.

Best Keith Jackson line of the game: "The Michigan Wolverines defeat the Ohio State Buckeyes thirteen to nine."

That OSU offense averaged 43 points a game that year.  They were insanely good.  And we held them to just 3 field goals.  That still floors me to this day.

Our offensive plan in this game was just as boring and bland as it ever was...but it worked.  After Streets scored, we just kept running up the middle over and over and over and OSU couldn't stop us.

i hadn't fully realized just how much i loved defense until the past couple seasons.  shutting down the other team (esp. when it's the buckeyes) is just so damn sweet. it'll be nice to see that again.
