1989 Michigan vs UNC video
Looks good to me. Haven't seen this in 28 years.
The aspect ratio is stretched to wide-screen. Not sure if there is any way to keep that from happening.
Otherwise it's great. Thanks for sharing.
This is one of my favorite Michigan Basketball games ever.
This and the highly underrated defeat of Kentucky in the 1993 Final Four. That Kentucky team was a juggernaut, stomping teams in the tournament by 50 points.
I feel the same way. From that era, those were two of Michigan's finest moments.
I only wish that they could have won in '93. That one hurt worse than any Michigan loss I can remember in basketball/football.
I remember after Michigan won this game that I believed that we would go all the way...after beating UNC, we HAD to...
This game was the inflection point in our tournament fortunes. Once we took care of UNC (who knocked us out of the tournament the two previous years) we were a different team. There was no stopping us after that.
Man, we were fast and athletic.
UNLV-ish.
Love that play right at the end of the 1st half. We would not be denied.
when they beat Arizona, IIRC (they flashed the score on the screen..after the Michigan game was over I went to a local watering hole where they had the UNLV-Arizona game on and that UNLV win was a pretty big upset.)
Unbelievable even all these years later. Rice was simply unstoppable in that tourney - still holds tourney scoring record, 181 pts if memory serves

This was a great game on both sides.
High praise from Dean Smith:
"Rice just did a sensational job. I don't think I've seen anything like that."
"I think we played very well, particularly in the second half. And it wasn't enough. There comes a time when you say congratulations to the other team. I don't know how we can play any better."

for first time in over 25 years.
1) When watching it live, I remember thinking that Jeff Lebo was going to score 50 points the way he started the game. He had 17 points in the first 10 minutes of the game. But he only scored 2 more points the rest of the way.
2) 50-47 at half - man, that first 20 minutes was an offensive show by both teams.
3) Mills could bang the boards and also had such a smooth inside post game. Amazing the way he became a long range shooter in the pro's, playing with the Pistons.
4) Glen Rice was absolutely incredible. I hope the young punks on the board watch some of this - to me, he is by far the greatest basketball player in Michigan history. He had 184 points in that 1989 tourney - still the all-time record after 28 years. And outside of his 3 point daggers, he was really athletic. His slam on the fast break in the 2nd half was electric. And people forget that he led the Big Ten in rebounding as a sophomore. A true Michigan legend.
Thanks again to the OP for loading this classic.

Wow, basketball was so good back then. No need for a shot clock!
Again UNC had many more foul shots before last minute FT hacks. Have we ever shot more FTs that them in the matchup?
