there's a $100,000 spot on the wheel!!  Why is he hoping for $5,000?

I was in Detroit about a year ago to visit my Mom: she listens to WOMC.  That's where JJ is now!  Which does make sense, but it did make me feel old, considering I remember both the WLLZ and WCSX days.

I have one of their tables in my living room - a hand-me-down, but serviceable. The showroom was later the Gibraltar Trade Center in Taylor, which was recently demolished to make room for a Menard's.

I remember the WRIF/WLLZ radio wars very well. Loved Arthur P. but WLLZ sponsored most of the best concerts. I still remember one wild October night in '84, Sammy Hagar was rockin Cobo and the Tigers were wrapping up the series. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

CKLW 800 AM was the big rock station in town with Dick Purtain and Byron McGregor and his halarious 20/20 news updates. Then I switched over the WRIF with Aurthur P!

I would listen to WRJ when I was a kid in the 70s since they were very pro Michigan Wolverines. Every Friday before football Saturday, JP McCarthy would be talking to Bo about how the season was going and the next game. Fun times.

I always liked the Faygo pop commercials from the late 60s and 70s. https://youtu.be/O572Mmraa_A

Things were simpler then.... and much more fun.

Dick The Bruiser was a HS football coach.  He came to one of my games once to scout us.  I remember looking up to see his bald head in the stands.  Everyone was talking about it.

I was always a WLLZ fan slightly more than WRIF.  They had Rock Wars everynight where they would have two bands face off against each other. You would call in to vote and they would then play 3 songs from the winner.  At least I think that's how it went.  I vividly remember when Ozzy beat the Stones 82-18.  We ragged on my brother all summer as he was a huge Stones fan.

I'm pretty sure that was Sheri Donovan, who was a WLLZ DJ and appeared in Playboy around that time. She was seriously hot. I saw her at a promotional appearance in Auburn Hills in the early 90s and can honestly say she was even better looking in person.

Great memories. 84 grad and it was the hey day of AOR radio and RIF's DREAD campaign. Our high school had a short community cable segment my senior and I got to interview George Baer, aka Dick the Bruiser. I was the worst interviewer on earth. No clue what I was doing even though it was a field I was interested in. SMH every time I think about it.

to listen to back in the day.  Really hilarious stuff a lot of the time.  I remember how they used to love to harpoon Detroit Mayor Coleman Young.  Some of the stuff they did was extremely non-PC and wouldn't fly today.  JJ is still on the air as someone above has pointed out on WOMC.  But he's pretty straight arrow now, but extremely knowledgeable about the music he plays.

Illich owned the Red Wings and Monahan the Tigers at the time.

The Sid Disabel, George Swell, and the Bruiser characters decided to go into the pizza business together because they wanted to be owners of a local sports team. They were making the pizzas themselves on the air. Sid said the pepperonis looked like hockey pucks. ...........I wish I could remember more of the details.

Always loved the "documentaries" by Richard T. Bruiser. Bruiser always ended them with a wild uncontrollable emotional rant with items being broken in the background as he was being cut off the air.

that you made me remember it was 30 years ago.

I could have seen that while waiting for the Count Scary movie to come back on.

I inherited my brothers cassette box with a WLLZ bumper sticker on it. I used to regularly listen to Rock Wars.

He had a friend that worked at Harmony House, and he worked at the Little Professor. I loved both. I could ride my bike up to the mall and get old 45's and cheap sci fi books.

Good times. Amazing to think I could get through a whole summer back then listening to music on tapes and not having the internet. (Though, we did have an Apple II with a Z80 and 64K!!! Choplifter was one of the best games ever!)
