1986 Michigan Replay
The entire 1986 michigan replay is now up. Hard to believe that Michigan was 4 points away from going a perfect 12-0. Enjoy.

HARBAUGH, Jerrod Bunch, Chris Calloway,John Kolesar, Mark Messner, Mark Hammerstein, Bob Perryman, Garland Rivers, Andy Moeller, John Vitale, Jamie Morris, Leroy Hoard, Jumbo Elliott, Mike Gillette, and I'm sure numerous others great players I've overlooked. Arguably Bo's best team (although IMO the '80 team that won Bo his first Rose Bowl was a bit better).
HUGE THANK YOU for posting that!
HARBAUGH!
What's funny about seeing Bo and Brandstatter in the studio is that they both have connections to Ohio State - one because he was an assistant there in two separate stints, and the other through his marriage to one Robbie Timmons, longtime WXYZ anchor and Ohio State alum. Funny how life works, eh?
The refs screwed us. Late in the 4th quarter, we attempted a pass for the game-clinching 1st down and our WR caught the ball going out of bounds right in front of Miami HC Jimmy Johnson. Smartly, Johnson immediately started doing the bobble motion which influenced the sideline ref to call it an incomplete pass. Replay showed that the WR caught the ball and maintained control. If the referees make the correct call, Michigan ices the game and Miami never gets a chance for the onside kick.
In a weird twist, the refs screwed #1 Miami four weeks later in South Bend when they ruled that Miami fumbled the ball before reaching the endzone when it should've been called a TD.
In our season opener, we missed a potential game winning FG as time experied in South Bend one week prior to the epic chokejob at home against defending National Champion Miami. So we started 0-2 but finished 9-2-1 which culminated in a Rose Bowl wn over USC and a final ranking of #4.
Notre Dame finished #1 and Miami finished #2.
1988 Michigan could've and should've won the National Championship. If we get a few breaks in the mid-to-late 80s, Schembechler could've finished his stellar career like Osborne did at Nebraska - with 3 National Championships in 4 years. 1985, 1986, and 1988 Michigan were all National Championship caliber teams.
then..yeah.
I was at that game. Michigan played like they wanted to get out of the cold and Minnesota played like they were ready to play two. I don't think I have ever been as pissed walking out of Michigan Stadium as I was that day. Then again, I did leave Ann Arbor in 1998, long before the last eight years happened.
It was probably my most disappointing game at Michigan stadium! They were number 2 in the country at the time. The players finally got more motivated during the drive when they tied it up in the 4th but let Foggie get the big run!
Though, I enjoyed watching the win over OSU in Columbus. That doesn't happen much anymore. Funny about how upset we got back then losing a couple games per season. After the last 8 years, a 2 or 3 loss season would be totally awesome. Hopefully Harbaugh will get us back to being perennial 10 plus game winners.
Might have been the greatest loss in Michigan history
My dad and uncle went to that game and snapped these pics...
'86 was a great year and so was '85, after a not so Bo like '84. I remember before the MN game every radio station and newspaper were all saying this may be Bo's first national championship team, since our only tough game would be OSU in Columbus. I thought Michigan would come back and beat the gophers but Foggy had a great game and was able to scramble his way down for their game winning kick. Michgan was kind of coasting through most of the game and did not take things seriously until the 4th QTR. That was one of the most disappointing games in my life as a Michigan fan. The team really came out flat in the 2nd half against ASU in the Rose Bowl and got shutout in the 2nd half which cost them the game. I'm glad OSU hired Cooper, the only good thing to come out of our loss!
OP, you're gonna be very happy with my next video upload.
I ordered the game DVD today so I'll hopefully have it done by the weekend. I had a VHS but it got fucked up when I tried to convert it over so I just spent $12 on the DVD.
