must not be a UM fan since he negged the OP. Odd that he couldn't bring himself to actually comment on why he negged the anniversary of one of the great Michigan victories in the last 25 years.

Wisconsin 2008 trumped them all, of course, coming back from 19 down.
@ Minn in 2003 was a bigger comeback than all of them.

...and didn't in the old days they used to always run a stat on television about how Michigan had never come back to win from a deficit larger than 14 points (or something like that)?
It used to be quite dreadful when the Wolverines fell behind.

3 yards and a cloud of dust...not exactly built for scoring lots of points in a hurry or coming from behind.

I was there too. But I would use some other description than "cool".
It was scorching hot that day. I felt sorry for our players having to wear their dark jerseys while VA got to wear white. I'm still convinced that this played a part in their lethargic play until the 4th quarter.

My dad took me to my first ever game at Michigan Stadium that day. Before, my Saturdays were speckled with coloring books, cartoons, and playgrounds. My Autumn Saturdays after that would be forever changed.

Went with my dad and big sister. I recall reading that it was the first game Jordan Kovacs attended as well.

This game was one of my very first Michigan football moments that I can vividly remember (6 at the time) and Ill never forget this play...one of the greatest!

Are you my sister? Because her wedding was approximately 15 minutes after the end of that game. I spent the whole game in my rent-a-tux, sweating and cursing and vomiting (and then I turned on the game, hey-o!!!) and when it was over I collapsed in a heap in my hotel room.
But on the bright side, I never forget my sister's anniversary, nor how long she's been married. It's just
now - Dreisbach/Hayes = how long my sister has been married

That might be the hottest game I've ever been to at Michigan Stadium. For a time my wife had to go sit in the shade. At that point we'd been married just 29 days, now it is 18 years. It was well over 100 degrees on the field and, if I recall, they had just outlawed any liquids being brought in. The lines for the "free Absopure water" were super long and I think they ran out of bottled water. That lead to the period of time where you could bring in water, but only if it was in an unopened bottle.
One week later we were visiting my parents who lived on the TPC course at Avenel (in Northern VA). My dad and I were golfing and at the proshop they asked if we'd mind if a single joined us, which was no problem. The guy turned out to be 6'4" and built like a tank. He asked about my Michigan hat and if I'd gone there. Turned out he was a former linebacker for UVA. I was nervous for a moment, but he congratulated me on the win and turned out to be a really nice guy.
Anticlimactic story, bro.

We had a family wedding that afternoon and a row full of out-of-town relatives in our seats. We stayed at the stadium as long as we possibly could (I think we left mid-3rd quarter, when things weren't going well anyway), hauled ass back home, and caught the last 5 minutes of the game huddled around a TV as we put on our suits. Still feels wrong I missed it in person, but at the same time, it's still an awesome memory.
And holy hell was it hot that day. First August game in Michigan Stadium, about a thousand degrees, full-on sun beating down... Just horrendous.

...for another HOT August day this Saturday vs. CMU. Last weather forecast I saw was sunny, hot and humid, upper 80's.
Just watching the local forecast on the TV right now, the weather outlook for SW Michigan/Northern Indiana ("Michiana" ) Saturday is 92 with late afternoon T-Storms possible.

part two. Bring your deodorant, people. I'm specifically talking to those who sit by me. Section 24. Thanks.

Both graduated from UVA, but my dad moved up to Ann Arbor to do post-grad work at UM. We were in the middle of the UVA section though, and the guys in front of us literally started crying after that play. Tears of unfathomable sadness.
My brother, who had turned 21 one week earlier, was so happy that he bought the 14-year-old me a 40oz. to celebrate. Cool story, brought to you by my bro.

You should help do the UFR's. That way we won't have to wait 9 months to see the last ones.

damn hot that day. So damn hot.
Took me like two days to recover just from baking and sweating in the sun,
August 27th, 2013 at 7:42 AM ^
Yeah, the two things that I remember about that day; the final play and how fucking hot it was. That game is like Top 5 of all time hottest games I've ever attended.

And of course how can we forget the grattitude we must offer to Mr. Butterfield for his well timed, intentionally dropped pass that made the victory possible.

I was fortunate enough to have an uncle who had season tickets growing up. I was even more fortunate to have him bring me to this game. We were sitting to high in that endzone to know if he caught it or not. We just went nuts off the fan reaction. My uncle passed away in 2000 of cancer. I have season tickets now, and there isnt a football weekend in Ann Arbor when i dont think of him.

This was one of the first big plays I remember, that's why I created this handle. Also wanted to name my dog Mercury but the GF said no. I ended up naming the dog Charlie instead.
August 27th, 2013 at 11:09 AM ^
You're dog must be quite fat so Charlie is a better name for it than Mercury....

I write this. That picture appeared in the Ann Arbor News the following day and you could have bought it from the newspaper. Hayes made the catch with both feet in and that photo demonstrates it in full color.
What a comeback in Lloyd Carr's first game as coach on a brutally hot August Saturday.

Shhh... MGoVideo is still trying to prove Mercury was out of bounds...
