15 Minutes of Spring Practice Video from Scout

Submitted by Tate on

Scout put together about 15 minutes of video from the open practice on Friday. Looks like it is all from 11 on 11 and 7 on 7. If you have a slow morning, check it out.

Welp, there goes my morning status report.

Honestly, I need the blog to go down for a month for me to get caught up.

Fortunately, that's just as likely to happen as not.

Thanks for posting. I looked with little effort last night and was hoping something would be posted here. I shamefully refreshed the site at least a 100 times yesterday

Our defense is going to be something special.  But man, they are going to give up some big plays.

They are living at the LOS and in the backfield.  Lot's of green grass behind them.

No matter what happens, somebody's band is going to play.

playing harder than most.  Not sure if that is against what he was told, but nobody seemed to tell him to slow down :)  He showed good instincts and ability to fend off a block and still get to the ballcarrier.  DL showed consistent push v OL but that may have something to do with the fact they know the offense so well.  Backs still had some holes to run through, but many plays were blown up by the DL penetration.  Like the occasional keeper by the QB's in the read option to keep the D honest, even though I doubt that will be part of our scheme.  Isaac and O'Korn looked quick, like Bush on D (and Peppers is a rocket to the ball when he blitzes or reads what is happening).  I like daring the offense to go for the big play. Some will hit, but many will be negative plays or throwaways (and some will be turnovers) ...  putitng us in a very good down and distance situation on D.

He appeared to be with the 1's the entire time. He looks the part of a Big Ten linebacker. Now can he just get it the correct gaps consistently and not get beat in the passing game. That will come with time. Hopefully he can stay healthy and get the reps needed to be the thumper we need in the LB corps.

According to Sam Webb, Winovich worked Grant Newsome over pretty good in the Friday practice.  As with all spring news, this is good because it means Winovich is really coming on, while Newsome has the remainder of spring practice, the offseason, and Fall camp to improve his technique and get stronger before becoming the LT anchor of the OL.
