14-year old Harbaugh as the Michigan ball boy

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

On the game film in #1 ranked Michigan's 21-9 victory over Duke in 1977, Rick Leach scores on a keeper.

A young Jim Harbaugh celebrates with Rick Leach. Complete with the Ufer radio call.

...just runs right past the ref and onto the field of play to celebrate with Leach.

If you watch the video closely you can see that Harbaugh was standing with his toes right on the sideline for the entire play, barely able to contain himself.

The second Leach crossed the goal line, Harbaugh is on the field.

Rick Leach must have been thinking 'What the heck is Jimmy Harbaugh's doing on the field of play?'

God, I hope he's really in this. It might be silly, but part of me thinks he might be taking this opportunity for a stable couple of years before heading back to the NFL. If he's truly convinced himself that he's best fitted for the college game and is in it for the long haul, we could have an all-time great coming to Ann Arbor.

so they don't have to keep uprooting their kids.  That was one reason why they chose to come to AA.  Also, if he were just coming for a couple of years, his 75 y/o father would not be moving to AA with him (reportedly).  FWIW, I read somewhere too that the agreement with the 49ers precludes him from returning to the NFL for a given number of years.

Incredible...What a coincidence that a young Harbaugh would appear in a photo of Michigan playing the school from whom we would someday poach our new head coach, David Cutcliffe.

I was at this game in 86.  Our tickets said "Block O".  Turned out it was the first row of the Ohio student section.  We moved down on the field and watched the game a foot away from the endzone cone.  Wilcher scored in the 4th quarter right in front of us.  I was on TV when Brutus is dancing...

We walked past Speilman before the game, and I remember thinking how small he looked and how skinny his legs were.  Then he went out and had about 22 tackles in the game...
