12/27/16 Bowl Games (open thread)

Submitted by goblueram on

Bowl schedule for today:

12:00 Army vs. North Texas (Army W 38-31 [OT])
Heart of Dallas Bowl; ESPN

3:30 Temple vs. Wake Forest
Military Bowl; ESPN

7:00 Washington State vs. Minnesota
Holiday Bowl; ESPN

10:15 Boise State vs. Baylor
Cactus Bowl; ESPN

Sadly, Army vs. North Texas comes in dead last (40 of 40) on the S&P+ "Watchability" rankings.  But it's still college football in the middle of a weekday.

My betting picks: North Texas +11, Temple -12, Minnesota +10, Boise State -7.5

Urban Meyer to Buffalo. Very credible source... A guy with a OSU masters degree told me at a truck stop when he was climbing back into his eighteen wheeler. Said BK and MD might join him.

  • Rutgers/Wisconsin - 7:00pm

What a great opening day slate.

We'll find out if NW is for real, if they can go on the road and beat a bottom-tier team with a pulse.

Illinois vs Maryland is the game I'm most intrigued by. I believe Illinois is for real, and Maryland is a fraud. Time to find out.

Wisconsin vs lolRutgers is a laugher.

MSU @ Minnesota should be a great game. I think Minnesota is for real, and even with the students on break, the crowd should be active. I think Minnesota wins a close one, as MSU is resting Bridges until he's 100%. Ward is a fantastic player, but will get into foul trouble due to increased workload and aggressive Minnesota team. Minnesota wins something like 65 - 58.

I hate this rule on punts. The ball randomly hitting a receiving team player in the back should not be treated the same as a muffed punt. That's just so stupid. And a player sure as hell shouldn't be able to be blocked or thrown into the ball.

I don't understand how teams make this mistake or come very close all the time at this level. In HS and when I played in college, if our returner was not going to field the ball he yelled "poison!" And everyone on our team ran the fucking opposite direction of the ball. Teams don't seem to do that anymore and I'm not sure why not.

The WSU quarterback has a decision to make about whether or not to go pro??  Doesn't seem like there is a decision at all.  He's not good at all.  Looked awful under pressure all night.   And against a secondary missing 3 or all of its starters??  Pretty pathetic performance.

Wow...looks like Edsall to UConn, again.

Interesting that Joe Moorhead is still being named a candidate as is the name I mentioned, Greg Schiano.

Not a bad trio if you're UConn.
