Tom Brady

After playing behind Brian Griese for two years, Brady started every game in the 1998 and 1999 seasons. During his first full year as starter, he set new Michigan records for most pass attempts and completions in a season, for a total of 214. Brady was All-Big Ten honorable mention both seasons, and was the team captain in his senior year.

The two seasons that Brady started at Michigan, he posted a 20–5 record, including his two comebacks in his senior season against Ohio State, then Alabama in the Orange Bowl. Brady finished his career ranking 3rd in Michigan history with 710 attempts and 442 completions, 4th with 5,351 yards and 62.3 completion percentage, and 5th with 35 touchdown passes.

Brady was Drafted 199th overall in the 2000 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. He has subsequently played his entire professional career with the Patriots and has enjoyed a distinguished and decorated career including four Super Bowl wins, three Super Bowl MVPs and two League MVPs. Brady is considered among the greatest quarterbacks of all time. In addition to his other accolades he has been named to the Pro Bowl eleven times, and led the league in passing three times. He holds numerous NFL post-season passing records, and has more post-season wins than any other quarterback. With Brady playing quarterback, the Patriots have never had a losing season, have won 13 division titles, and played in a remarkable ten AFC Championship games from 2001 to 2015 (including five in a row from 2011 to 2015), winning six of them.

Here are some highlights from his time at Michigan.

I was rather hoping #9 would take a Police Academy sort of turn after Guttenberg and it would be Michael Winslow perhaps. Granted, nothing to do with Michigan in his case but the sound effects were awesome and make him worthy of the Top Ten on a list somewhere, at least in my book.

Wait, what? Even Tom Brady would admit he's not a great athlete. The whole world knew Henson was the better athlete. /s

Tom Brady is the greatest QB in the history of football no doubt.

My favorite Tom Brady memory was the 1999 Penn State game, which was the final home game of child rapist (but let's not do anything about it for 40 years) Jerry Sandusky. If you go back and watch that entire game, it's a 3 hour love fest for Sandusky, which is beyond creepy knowing what we know now.

As for the game itself, the defense played spectacular in the first half. Penn State's only points came from a punt return thanks to the old "don't break the halo rule," which was eventually changed. Michigan got flagged for it and then on the rekick, all the defenders awkwardly put the breaks on which was enough for the PSU returner to get loose and take it to the house.

Midway through the third quarter, we lead 17-7 thanks to some great passing from Brady to David Terrell and Marcus Knight. A-Train had a couple nice runs as well. PSU quarterback Kevin Thompson made about a dozen horrible throws directly at Michigan receivers that should have been picked off (Think Devin Gardner against Northwestern in 2013) but we could never come down with any of them. Our guys pick just a couple of those off and the game is over early. It never happens and Penn State's offense finally starts clicking in the second half.

Now we trail 20-17 with just a little over 7 minutes left in the game....and Brady throws a pick six. Trailing 27-17, I figure we're done. Michigan gets the ball back, Brady makes a 15 yard run with his 'Chariots of Fire' speed to mid field. A couple passes to Terrell and Marquise Walker and then Brady runs and reaches the goal line for the score, causing Sandusky to throw his headphones off in disgust. Now down 3 with a little over 3 minutes left, the defense holds PSU to a 3 and out and Dialo Johnson returns the punt to the PSU 35. Three plays later, Brady throws the go ahead TD to Marcus Knight.

In the final minute and a half, Penn State drives to the Michigan 35 when Ian Gold knocks the ball out of Thompson's hands and Larry Foote recovers, causing Brent Musberger to scream, "Michigan wins it! Michigan wins it!" And Beaver Stadium turns into a library.

After throwing that pick six, Brady was calm, made great decisions with his throwing and his feet and won the game. Still one of my favorite victories ever.

That game. Ahead. Behind. Left for dead. Win that crushes soul of opponent. My favorite formula for Michigan Football. I recall that game well. I recall nearly walking out of the room after the pick 6 but instead nearly sweating through 2 t-shirts and finally exhausted with a win. Then going out that night and telling everyone that I never had a doubt...

I was at that game. It was tough to watch. I think I kept my head down most of the fourth quarter hoping for a miracle (we had a positive play when I had my head down and I'm a little superstitious, so I kept it that way). After the game some toothless old hag (typical of PSU fans I guess) started swearing and bitching at me for being obnoxious. I guess it's against the law in that shit hole to cheer for anyone other than Pedophile State University.

still my favorite game of all time. I wasn't even 10 yet, but I was already a big fan. I watched the first half but my mom turned it off at halftime. so I waited until they went to bed and then turned it back on in my room. it was halfway through the 4th quarter, and I stayed up and watched the rest, completely captivated.

in the morning, I had left the TV on because I was exhausted. tried to tell my mom that I must've rolled over the remote in my sleep. she didn't buy it. still an epic game though. what a great team!

Love how LLLLLLLoyd talks a big game about TB12 now.  Yes, he wasn't Tom Brady yet, but the signs were there.  1999 team was a NC calibur team but LLLLLoyd was too afraid of the Yankees $$$ to do the right thing and go with TB12 as the starter.  What was the result, no NC and Henson ultimately screwed him anyway.

Didn't Clint Eastwood make a movie about Henson's career with the Yankees, Trouble with the Curve?

Favorite TB memory, we traveled back to Michigan for Thanksgiving and went to the game.  Brady absolutely carved up the Lions.  Think he pointed out Alphonzo Smith on every play that was coming that way.

If just looking at his career at Michigan Brady probably doesnt crack the top 100 but if factoring in his pro career the case could be made for #1.  Sort of like Phelps IMO.

I've noticed these are coming later and later in the day (night?).  Common OP - post them mid-day so we have something to debate in the afternoon!

I lke the evolution of the titles for these ranking...

"25th best athlete..." wait well no, that's not entirely accurate.

"15th most popular athlete..." well sorta, but not exactly.

"11th athlete in the MGoUsers Poll" perfect :)
