10/12/12 - Michigan Hockey vs RIT Game Thread

Submitted by bacon1431 on

Tough loss last night. Hopefully we play better tonight. No video tonight, but audio can be found on MGoBlue.com. Racine in goal tonight, so we'll see how he handles it.

Watched a little bit of Minnesota/MSU and Minny just seems to cleanly outmatch the Spartans. Too much going on tonight. Mich-RIT, MSU/Minny on FSD+, ND/Maine on NBC Sports, Yanks-Os Game 5, Grand Rapids Griffins game online, USMNT World Cup Qualifying....I'm beside myself.

I think he is much better than every wants to admit. Either that or I'm way too high on Racine's talent. Either way is fine as long was we get the W.

Rutledge and Racine will be okay.  Racine is older and seems more comfortable. Both are raw and fundamentally flawed, so it will take time.

Trouba is a great talent, but if he doesn't start protecting his defensive partner better, he'll get a load of Red. Too many odd man rushes b/c of his solo efforts.

Michigan fans are going to like the freshmen. Milne played both games, strong on the boards. Selman and Copp are physical and possess some skill, although both are out hurt. Nieves can fly and can see the ice real well.

Andrew Sinelli, a sophomore, got his first collegiate goal, a top shelf snipe that would have made Kevin Porter proud. Plus he laid out two big hits, and hit a post on a SH breakaway.

RIT is a good team, similar to a mid pack CCHA team. Young defense and goalies too. Not enough depth to keep up for 60 minutes. They took the momentum away on Thursday after a couple of poor goals deflated Michigan.

This team will be okay if they can play sound defense and have the goaltending make the stops they should.  They'll have plenty of offense.

So on the RIT goal that was reviewed by the refs, the announcer said that they shouldn't have gone to the replay booth in the first place because the referee had waived it off due to a hand pass, and that anything that happens after a hand pass shouldn't be reviewed.  Is that right?

so this is just based on your post, but yes. If the referee called a hand pass the play should have been blown dead immediately with the ensuing faceoff in the offending team's zone (with no changes permitted by the offending team).

If M got called for a hand pass (and remember that a defensive team can be called for one in the NCAA) it's possible that the referee ruled that M didn't gain possession and control, although that shouldn't be reviewable.

Hoping PDG regains that form we saw him early in last year. He was a stud at the beginning of the season and probably hit the rookie wall (in terms of points). Kid can be real good.

2 goals in two games! Quite an impressive opening performance for the freshman! Great win boys! GO BLUE
