#1 pick in Big Ten draft

Submitted by mbee1 on
If you could start a team (college) with any current player in the Big Ten, who would you pick? My friends and I discussed this and we came to the conclusion the Big Ten talent level stinks this year. Most of us agreed we would still take Pryor. Maybe Clark? B. Graham? Greg Jones? There weren't many players to pick from.

This is tough. I suppose it depends on if this is a one year league or a "dynasty". If its just one year I'd probably take B. Graham. If its a dynasty I'd probably take Tate.

Bryan Bulaga.. easy... you can have the best QB in the world.. but a sucky OL will make him look like crap.. Look at Jimmah now that he has a decent OL protecting him

i haven't done the research. but i thought bulaga was pretty bad against BG and that there are tackles he's faced who've done better than that. just offhand, i think indiana has been pretty good in pass pro this year and might have a tackle worthy of the Best B10 Tackle award. but even that consideration right there should be enough to convince that if you're just starting a team, you should be after a talent that will give you the most wins relative to other options at that position. i don't think the greatest disparity is at tackle in the big ten.

I gotta go with Graham. If I were starting a team the first thing I'd want is good leadership, on and off the field. edit: with that said, there's no way I'd take Pryor.

I would take Tate. I'm biased, but he's a freshman at arguably the most important position and he has shown a lot of promise. I know he hasn't been as good in the last few games as he was at the beginning of the year but I would still take him. For me. it would come down to him and Pryor because they're both impact underclassmen at crucial positions, but I would rather have Tate for 3 years than Pryor for 2 and I still don't know whether or not Pryor will ever become a good passer.

If anything, potential was low on Millen's priorities while drafting. He was picking on college resume alone. By the time Campbell is a senior and has adjusted to the speed of the game and his lower weight, he'll be a force. Judging a freshman based on limited playing time is ridiculous.

If it's just a random team then I'd probably take Death Roh or Mike Martin. If it's Michigan that I'm drafting for I would pick the best young safety since we apparently can never recruit great safeties and this has been a huge weakness for a while.

People seem confused, and rightfully so. That said, if anyone doesn't think BG isn't the best player in the league (and I don't give a damn what the stats are) then I seriously question his/her evaluation of talent. Dude, he's a defensive lineman who BLOCKED A PUNT after having to run over NAVARRO BOWMAN, future NFL player. I've seen enough.

Justin Boren... So I could run his A$$ all day and curse at him for hours straight without stopping to breathe. How do you like me now, b*tch. And no, I wouldn't let him drive home on winter weekends to plow snow with daddy.

1. Tate Forcier - QB, Michigan 2. Kevin Newsome - QB, Penn State 3. Jamaal Berry - RB, Ohio State 4. Dorian Bell - LB, Ohio State 5. Devier Posey - WR, Ohio State * If you could include ND, I would probably take Michael Floyd at #2 overall.

I would go with Graham. I want to start on D because excellent defensive players can impact a game more than excellent offensive players. Now, if there was a truly dominant safety in the Big Ten I would go with him, someone like an Eric Berry can make a defense infinitely better, but there really isn't that dominant safety in conference. Can't go linebacker because there are quite a few good ones, Jones, Bowman, Lee, Rolle, Angerer, the list goes on. Db would easily be Warren, but a shutdown Db won't affect most teams like a dominant end. Graham is easily the best DE in conference, and I feel like I could build a defense around him. He draws extra blockers, plays the run well, and 5 plays a game he will absolutely destroy it in the backfield.

Right now for Michigan I would take that Safety from Ohio State Kurt Coleman. He would really help Michigan right now.

You're right about the question, but I wanted to leave it open so people could interpret it whichever they wanted to. I think people were expecting better Big Ten play this year based on the returning QB's and some of the others taking over appeared to be better than the old starter. I can't think of a QB in the league (Elliot at Purdon't?) that has played better than anticipated. The point I'm trying to make is where is the good young talent, soph. or red-shirt freshman, in this league?
