#1 Jersey possible to Drake Harris
Not doubting but .....
Drake has said in multiple paywalled interviews that the coaches talked to him about it as a possibility. He was very clear that the coaches told him he'd need to work hard and earn it though, so it's not just being given to him as a freshman. He also said it was a big deal to him because he was the first receiver the coaches have talked about it with as a possibility (at least what the coaches told him).
The link doesn't say he was promised #1, just shown a video and stuff.
Good, I haven't worn my number one in forever...it'd be nice to bring it back into rotation
I thought you only said "FUCK (INSERT TEAM NAME HERE)"
...oh, the good ol' days, how I miss you.
Haha yea, unfortunately I need more than "fuck" and college names at work...I'm sure in late August my vocabulary will regress again most Saturdays

Not sure if the link works as I'm posting via iPhone.
Link works... Sorry it's mlive.
To be fair, anything at mlive besides their forums have gotten much better
number 1 jersey. I guess I'll have to travel to Ohio to get one. I hope I can find one, I hear they're selling like hotcakes.
He will have to earn it.
They didn't say he was going to get it, the OP is very misleading. They used it as a recruiting pitch to say, "you could be next in a long line of #1 jersey wearers at Michigan". Nothing more than you'd expect from a recruiting pitch, they probably showed the same video to every one of our WR targets.

the op sucks

Now I'm going all emo. Thanks
Looks like I got carried away. I guess I didn't read the article clearly enough. He wasn't offered the #1 but if you read between the lines I think it a real possibility he gets it
Embarrassing

that bitched about a Mitch and GRIII press conference. Pot, meet kettle.
Seeing a number 1 out on the field again would give me the same feeling I had when I saw Jurassic Park in 3D IMAX last week and the scene when they see the dinosaurs walking by the lake. Chills...just mad chills.
to see that?
Yea...I actually recommend it. I was only 7 when it came out in theatres so this was a chance to see it on the big screen with surround sound. It was awesome.
I listened to Drake on the Huge Show. Sounds like they gave him the same pitch as every WR. Showed a highlight of #1s then said "you could be next". Hoke would NEVER promise it to an incoming freshman
I don't know, man. tRCMB is convinced that the only way Hoke can land such top players out of high school is that he promises playing time and basically rolls out the red carpet for them. This is probably just another of Hoke's tricks to get players to sign.
April 20th, 2013 at 10:54 AM ^
If the RCMB said it, it has to be true!
I believe their central claims are that we have Santa Claus as our coach and that Santa pays of all his players. It makes so much sense I can't beieve I had not thought of it sooner!
Braylon is going to blow a cow
Um, well that was informative. And the fact that ghandi is quoted about the process...only the Internet...

I'm not sure if this falls under Rule 34 or not.

It is time for Brady Hoke to take control of the #1 jersey back from Braylon, thank him for his alumni contributions, and tell him to shut up.
I have never missed a good opportunity to ridicule Braylon... when he deserved it.
And Braylon has given us innumerable chances to do that.
But I don't understand how this is an occasion to make fun of Braylon. Certainly, of all the dumb and crazy things Braylon has done and said, endowing a scholarship is not one of them. Braylon was an idiot for going public with his gripe(s) about Rodriguez, but today is not one of those days. Braylon's done nothing wrong in relation to Drake Harris. Nobody has.
By itself, and without Braylon's history of stupid comments, his endowment of a scholarship and his informal specification for wearers of the #1 jersey is laudable. I don't see today as one of those days to laugh at Braylon. I'd like to get back to the days of thinking of Braylon as a beautiful prototypical wideout on the field and not thinking about him off the field.
I thought Berkley Edwards was promised the #1 jersey.

Beat me to it!
Trump card? You mean besides a degree from Michigan of course.
said about the #1 jersey for these years it has gone unworn, that it is approaching mythical status (somewhat deservedly so). The person deemed worthy of wearing it will be someone with the obvious elite receiving skills, but also the drive and dedicatlion to carry the honor and burden of this jersey.
Here's to hoping that any current receiver or future receiver will rise to this great honor and challenge!

On the topic of earning numbers, rumors were swirling months ago that DG switched from 7 (which he wore thought high school) to 12 so Shane wouldn't come right in and be entitled to "his number".
April 20th, 2013 at 11:18 AM ^
Eh, I care a little less about that than earning a historical Michigan number like a 77 for elite LT, #2 for an elite CB, #1 for an elite receiver, etc.

Link?
April 20th, 2013 at 11:49 AM ^
No link. Nothing official but some hall-mates (trainers/managers) definitely thought it to be real.
I honestly never understood the switch of Devin Gardner's number. I wish somebody really could explain it. It's a distraction to me, all of these number switches. I still have it in the back of my mind that 'Devin is seven...'
The coaches don't promise numbers to recruits. They might explain the process and why the university has certain important jerseys but let it be clear as rain that each kid HAS TO EARN the right to wear a designated number, especially the #1. It's not given to them to make them commit. Not sure why some still think it is.
April 20th, 2013 at 10:56 AM ^
I heard they promised him AT LEAST the #0, with the chance to move up a spot.
the #1. He wont be given it though. Hoke was just selling him on how he could be the next. And I would have to agree that the top wr recruit in the country to some might be able to earn the #1
April 20th, 2013 at 10:57 AM ^
I wish they would just give it to somebody already. Not worth worrying about every year.
April 20th, 2013 at 10:58 AM ^
the thought of landing two players capable of wearing the #1 and #2 in the same class.....
April 20th, 2013 at 11:23 AM ^
I know this is what you're alluding to, but Peppers looks worthy.
April 20th, 2013 at 11:29 AM ^
In other news, #1 jersey possible to Da'Mario Jones, #1 jersey possible to Jaron Dukes, #1 jersey possible to Jehu Chesson, #1 jersey possible to Amara Darboh, #1 jersey possible to Csont'e York, and last but not least, #1 jersey possible to Devin Gardner.
Ok strike the last one.
April 20th, 2013 at 11:38 AM ^
I wish they would just get on with it and assign all the classic jersey numbers and not try and wait for the "perfect player" at the "perfect time". Not everyone who wore #1 and #2 was a superstar. Stars create their own legacy
April 20th, 2013 at 12:23 PM ^
Give it out to a freshman. That's how Carter, McMurtry, Alexander, Butterfield (ugh) and Terrell got it.
It was only until Braylon that they implemented that "earn it" horsecrap. If anyone knows how the Jersey really got it's start, Bo wanted to give it to Carter because he was a prized recruit. Hmmmm.....
