given the state of the big 10 this year, can't afford to drop winnable ones at home.
1-1-12 Michigan vs Minnesota
Thank God for Burke! Don't think UM survives a year ago. Its so great having another viable threat to lead the team when JR. & Co. Are having an off day. UI will be a true test this week. Hopefully the guys worked their kinks out yesterday.
anyone got a stream?
I'm looking like crazy since I don't have BTN at home, but so far nothing
Easy to see the upgrade in talent of the opposition after all the cupcakes M feasted on in December. Good shots are tough to come by so far.
Smot getting better by the minute. Can see his decision making improving game by game.
(1) Smot is looking really good as of late
(2) Is Indiana really that good? Knocked off OSU 74-70. Dark horse for the Big Ten title?
I think we're outplaying them so far, we haven't capitalized on our opportunities though
Indiana is legit. They beat Kentucky and OSU so far. They choked against MSU, but they are better than us on paper. Their team is just loaded with sharp shooters.
Can't bear to turn off the lions so i only am getting to flip over every little bit to look at the score.
Not the greatest, but follow the directions and it works:
Trey Burke show going on out here
Hardaway is in a serious three point shooting funk, but this lead could be double digits if we could hit a free throw
Shot that the game has started and its okay to start falling. Hopefully these FTs get him going...
For me it's encouraging that we can win or stay competitive if we don't have our best game, that's just the talent of this team showing itself
I wonder if Morgan would be better coming off the bench? He's been a completely different player since re-entering the game. He's really going after it now.
It's brick city for both teams. Pretty decent defense, just lots of missed shots. Burke is dominating our scoring and Smotz went to te bench with his 2nd foul already with 8 rebounds.
Hardaway is really struggling but he shoudl continue attacking and making shots
THJ is just having a nightmare of a game. Settling for jump hooks and really poor decisions. Look for him to go off in the second half. I think believing will find ways to get him going
Stupid auto correct
Walked off with his head down after that last miss. Hopefully his defensive and rebounding intensity stays high during the second half
23-19 at half Michigan leads
23-19 Michigan at the half
Burke has at least 11 of our points.
Michigan hasn't been getting any foul calls, but they really haven't taken advantage of the free throws they've had
True but Minnesota has generally been more aggressive and that's what gets you the calls. When Burke, THJ, and Novak were attacking the rim, they were getting fouls (and missing free throws)
We should be up at least 10 right now
No excuse to lose this game, we can't put the ball in the basket
Fans need to start booing these refs some more, huge inconsistencies on the foul calling
What a time for Douglass to find his stroke, he's making up for Hardaway offensive struggles
Lots of ticky-tack foul calls here. Would like to see us get a couple fast breaks and extend this lead.
Trey Burke continues to astound me
The upgrade from last year's Big 10 hoops announcers who coined the Darius Morris "Butterfly" thing to Gus Johnson is like upgrading to steak from nuclear winter.
Everything's better w/ Blue Bonnet on it
Good ball movement last possession. But it was for naught. Bummer.
Jordan Fucking Morgan. He looks so damn lost out there. Turns it over everytime he gets it near the rim or misses a shot.
Awful day for Timmy, 1-13 from the floor, but he can afford one. Trey has been the savior so far. THJ's bad day, poor free throw shooting, and turnovers have kept this game close.
Morgan's doing a nice job of rebounding, but he's being smothered down low, and has no choice but to thrown it away, he can't get a whistle
Morgan not getting a whistle.
Agreed, the calls have been one-way.
He's had some nice rebounds, especially offensively, but how helpful are they when he immediately turns it over or misses a shot?
Morgan's done some good stuff, but his ball-handling has been subpar, for sure.
This is putrid. Just a terrible day for THJ.
They have to miss one eventually right?
Need a basket here
Hate to say it, but they need to keep the ball away from Timmy today. He's ice-cold in all areas tonight.
Novak forced that shot. This would be a bad loss. Can't afford it.
Oh shit. Should not be this close.
for this game to still be in doubt. Minnesota is not good. Our guys are asleep.
Then all is forgiven. Regardless though, It seems possible that the B1G season is going to kill his draft stock and expose him badly
1:27 to go Minnesota ball. Michigan 57 Minnesota 56
I don't think I can handle this parlayed with the Lions game.
On the other hand, Trey is having a great day. 27 points and 8-of-11, the game would be way out of reach for Minny if THJ was on.
after a rough day for THJ he buries a CLUTCH shot.
That is how a star does it. Clutch baby.
There you go homie!!!!
I don't want this game to go into overtime.
Hah, if he's going to make only one basket today, I suppose that's the one we want.
[Technically two, but whatevs]
Hardaway with a jumper. Michigan up 59-56 with 35.1 to go
"had the onions to take the big shot." love that Gus Johnson.
THJ had the ONIONS to take that shot..
Gus Johnson is awesome.
Maybe Hardaway can be clutch and force them to give the ball up.
Tremendous D when it mattered most.
Like one of the previous posters said, we can't afford a loss like this. Especially with the B1G being so deep this year.
And Novak ices it.
All is forgiven Timmy.
Also, Trey Burke makes me giggle.
Not a pretty win, but I'll take it.
and all losses are ugly!
That was WAYY too close.
THJ was 2-14, but he did have the clutch shot at the end. We won't be winning many B1G games with him shooting 14%
If Big Ten defenses are gonna do this to our offense we're in trouble
It was less defense than ice-cold shooting.
Hardaway's struggles weren't just cold shooting. He forced up a lot of bad shots.
and we still come out with a win. Can't afford that against a good team, but this team is finding a way to win. Great sign.
Tremendous victory. Smot and Hardaway combined 3-18
Props to Morgan, he played very tough down the stretch. And of course they don't win this game without Burke, kid was just fantastic
torrent at mgovideo? miss it. Go Blue!
A win is a win - Minny is a decent team with a good defense. Thursday's game @ IU should be an interesting barometer for this team - I think Indiana is a bit overrated, but so is UM. Should be interesting to see how both squads match up.
IU is overrated? They beat tSIO and UK. Only loss was at Breslin. And they arent in the top 10 even. How can anyone say thet are "overrated."
Last year Michigan opened the Big Ten season losing by 23 to Purdue in Ann Arbor and started off 1-4 at home in league play. So starting off 2-0 in league play is pretty awesome to me. Michigan didn't win their 2nd league game until the Jan. 27 upset of MSU in East Lansing.
Next year with the new recruits coming in, and another year of experience for our current guys, Michigan is going to be a force in the BIG.
But the students cannot get back soon enough. That was pretty near a full house, and I appreciate them coming out in the cold, but good lord. The echo of the blue rage off empty seats might have been louder. Tough, ugly game won on the boards by Morgan and Smotrycz. No help whatsoever from the officials or the home crowd, but they gutted it out. Good job blue.
Crisler was sold out Thursday night but no students and a 20 member high school band was playing The Victors. We won but the atmosphere was poor. The game staff should have piped music in for louder ambiance. Didn't know how much I missed the Maize Rage until they weren't there. Get back soon.
Smot went to the bench with his third foul with 11:20 left and didn't return untli the last 5 seconds of the game. Kinda strange
I missed it, but my wife said Metrics was arguing with one of the assistant coaches when he came out. Dunno...but we sure need him on his game at Indiana.
Your wife has a sharp eye. We've seen Belien take similar action with players, (Manny and Darius off the top of my head), so it's not unprecedented. Good lesson for Smot; Don't mess with Coach B. As for IU... I just don't see that happening; it would be a monumental victory.
When Stu and Zack were freshmen preparing to take on Duke coach Beilein told them that if they played 10 times, Duke would probably win 7. But they only had to beat the odds once. They only have to beat Indiana once on Thursday. I'm not saying they're going to win, but I wouldn't bet anything I couldn't afford to lose against them.
plus throwing in the typical horrendous officiating they always get there, the game will be over by halftime. Hopefully, they got that out of their system.
From today's post-game(umhoops.com)
On Horford’s progress: “He hasn’t done anything again. We’ll have an update with medical determination later this week. There hasn’t been another MRI.”
Before the Bradley game Beilein really made it sound like Horford was headed for a redshirt. Last week he said something to the effect of "we'll see how he feels in February". I'd say tea leaves suggest 80% chance of redshirt.
Minnesota is good they only have two losses.
I've always been fond of periods between sentences.
Maybe we need to start a program of our own.
