I feel like a better idea would be to replace the Minnesota M with the next row of scores.  They can put that bastard M back on the jug when they win it.

I say you just start painting a new column over the M's. No need to create a white background. Just put blue paint atop the existing maize background and vice versa. Whoever wins the year it is time to start a new column gets to decide which logo to cover for that column.

Move both letters down and resize them proportionally to new columns over each letter. It's clean design, preserves the look and simple to do. It's also likely to suffice for another half century or so. Unfortunately.

I agree with Brian.  Retire (and hang on to) the old jug and start a new one. It was Michigan's to start with, and if possession really is 9/10 of the law, it does belong to Michigan.
