Imagine how silly good that '97 team would have been with Manning at QB.  Griese was good and all, but that would have been a team for the ages.

Before Sam Webb's gut and all...Archie Manning was asked where he thought Peyton was going, and he responded "Michigan." 

Not complaining about 1997-2000 Michigan football, but wow...that would have been amazing for us (and Peyton) as a Junior and Senior in 1997 and 1998...

When has that happened?

Davis and Blanchard for Army in the 1940's?

Reggie Bush and Matt Sanchez at USC?

I am trying to think of some others.  Chappuis and Bump Elliott would have been good, but I don't think Bump got many votes.  Has it happened at Notre Dame, with all of their overblown and inexplicable hype for Heisman winners?  Hanratty and Seymour?  I can't think of any SEC team; Pat Sullivan of Auburn won the Heisman; was anybody else from his team a finalist?

Peyton's recruitment was while I was at UM, and recruiting wasn't that big of a deal then. More of a mention in the Daily, as the internet was only in its crudest form at the time. I remember thinking to myself that "Archie Manning's kid" sure could have potential. Anyway, we did win a title, which he never did (or beat Florida), so I guess it worked out for us. And he seems like a good guy, so I'm glad he did get a Super Bowl ring.
