I wonder when they are gonna hang their Sweet Sixteen banner. Oops.
Izzo respects Michigan's achievement, but at Final Four will be 'cheering for the Spartans'
I'd love to see him there with a green foam finger and MSU pennant. "I'm cheering for Sparty!"
but Izzo is taking the "expect the worst and you won't be disappointed" plan a little bit too far. I do have a serious question about this piece, though: what the hell does all this mean? "Nobody will understand that I went through some times here where that'll never end until the day I'm dead. I downplayed it during the year, but it's just a fact of life."
i didn't get this either
I think he's referring to dirty recruiting by UM at the beginning of his tenure, the tail end of the Ed Martin era - there may have been some overlap.
He is supposed to be quite bitter about the recruits he felt he lost out on, as an assistant and head coach, due to dirty recruiting.
How can he be bitter when our program ultimately paid a terrible price for those rule violations? We were sanctioned by the NCAA and basically de-emphasized men's basketball for a decade. Whatever recruits he lost in the '90s, he easily made up for in the '00s.
making his bitterness known works to his advantage now, allows him to rehash the injustices heaped upon him in the past. I imagine this is a frequent discussion topic in the locker room, as well as the press room.
Dirty recruiting? My understanding is that Ed Martin was pushing Chris Webber and Jalen to go to msu.
Who go to the World Cup, chearing for Scotland...who has never made it to the World Cup. I tried to find the commercial, but couldn't.
Scotland has made the World Cup, actually. They have never made it out of the group stage, though.
The actual quote from him in the story is worded worse than the headline.
Fuck that dude
Where's the threat?
Dileo is at practice or class
Rehab Dad would never do something like that. He must have fallen off the bandwagon again.
If I were in his place I would cheer for the Shockers of THE Wichita State University.
It shows itself! Anyone remember Coach Hoke saying that he roots for Michigan State when they play non-B10 teams? It isn't a stretch to see Coach Beilein do the same. Yet they would rather walk on broken glass than ever cheer for Michigan.
the next time somehone post here about rooting for the Big Ten in bowl games or NCAA tournament.
You can tell that the Wolverine success this year is really eating at Izzo. Our perfect non-conference record, being ranked #1 and now in the final four. He is used to getting all the attention, especially in March. He has gone out of his way to point out how well his team did this year.
