At the time of his commitment, I was a member of the rivals board and we were all betting on the incoming freshman that would make the biggest impact - not for the first season, but for career. Based on his freakish athletic ability, I just took a chance and went with this kid. What a lot of people that don't follow recruiting seriously might not know is this kid was recruited by a lot of BCS schools as a RB and many schools were tossing the "Eddie George like" analogy at him, mostly because as a MD rb, he did a lot of things Eddie did in college. He is big, very fast and possesses athletic ability that allows him to basically stand underneath the hoop and from a two foot plant jump when whistle sounds and place both hands over the square above the rim. That's big stuff there. He also was timed in the 4.4 range which, given his size would make a lot of teams pursue him at the RB position.  His h.s. coach was very honest though and realized his future, if he had one in fb would more than likely be on the defensive side of the ball, so I'm thinking he lacked many of the essentials that the great RBs have and it could be lack of lateral quickenss, full-field vision, et. al. However, his tangibles were so rare as to speed and pure athleticism that I thought, given proper time, this is a kid that could really make a difference in year three probably, and with luck, year two.

We Michigan fans are not unlike all the others. I thought we had a bigger Ian Gold on hand, and we still might. He definitely has all that Ian possessed, in terms of athletic ability and that is as far as we can go. He has a lot of proving to do and missing out on an entire spring session was a major setback. That time might have been what was needed for him to really make an impact on this team this season. He still has this year and two others to make his mark here,and I'm still betting he has a season that will be somewhat special. We've suddenly got lbers stacked deep for the upcoming years, so he'll have his work cut out for him. My guess, and that all it is, is that he contributes before all is said and done. Normally when you have a ton of talent surrounding you, has been the case in the past with most Michigan teams, those that have the talent somehow find the will to display all they possess. I think as Michigan starts proving to everyone they're back for good, players like Furman and M. Robinson and a few others, possibly not possessing the stars our other recruits might have, but possibly more athletic ability will decide it's a hell of a lot more fun to be a part of the group on the field than those standing on the sidelines. This is, imo, one to keep an eye on. Josh Furman should make a name for himself here when all is said and done.
