Cleary confident in ability to compete
“That was the understanding that this could potentially happen,” noted Cleary at Media Day on Sunday. “It’s kind of part of the game. I’m good friends with Russ, so it’s disappointing as far as that goes, but I do realize it’s a great opportunity for me. Just to help this team in some way is exciting for me.”

Cleary's ability to compete... sorry i thought this was an OT joke piece on Dan Cleary. Actually, I'm not sorry, it was way more informative than I thought. I hope he gets mop up snaps in blowout games, if only so Shane Morris can redshirt this year. If Shane Morris actually is redshirted, that would be amazing, I doubt it actually happens.

with all this talk of Jake making it back this year, what about bellomy? is there no chance he makes it back this year? didn't he have an ACL as well?

I think this staff wants him off of the field this year for HIS sake. I am not one of the fans that had written the guy off at all but I think with a QB you run the risk of giving him on-field mental issues should he have not gotten hurt, had to play and let's say eventually lose the job to Shane or Cleary. He had the misfortune of having to practice under an offense that didn't suit him his first two years and as a RS FR was tossed into a rough environment with zero OL, WR or scheme help. We need to face what this staff knows (imo) and that is Bellomy needs a year off to just mentally learn the playbook and get his confidence back. I firmly believe he can and will be a solid, "game manager" type QB for us (or someone) one day. There will be a day where he genuinely contend for the job here or elsewhere. He can play but needs a pass heavy system or one less heavily by the run like UM squads in the past. He was a nice late grab when Hoke was hired.
