Sometimes I don't just not care about things, I'm also careless.

There is a difference in not caring about the consequences of behavior and being careless. I do think its funny they mentioned being careless and used the wrong "to" to modify it.

It's also possible the author meant that DB has been HERE. Maybe that's where DB learned not to care about the consequences of his condescension to the little people. One never knows.

I get your point...it's a semantics debate. But like, when you don't care about consequences, it's just being careless. Careless is careless no matter the concept! Again, I do get how the author intends, it just reads funny (and redundant, to me).
