1: Do you, yourself, compete in said event?
2: Do you compete in said event at the same level of competition as the person you are planning to insult or berate?
3: Have you played with or competed against the person you are planning to insult or berate?
If you can answer yes to ALL THREE of these questions, then by all means, go ahead. If not, SHUT THE FUCK UP.
