16-foot version of Zidane headbutt statue erected outside Paris museum as an ‘ode to defeat’
that event for French people and the Muslim population in France, some of it relating not just to ideas about what constitutes justice for Muslims but France's colonial past. Seems like the statue serves a pretty cool function in helping people continue to work the thing through.
Interesting point. But given Zidane's Algerian background and the fact that he is or at least was roundly blamed for getting that red card, might it not also fan the flames of French-Arabic tension and mistrust?
On the other hand, he drilled an Italian, so maybe all is forgiven.
Zidane is revered in France. People quickly forgave him for the headbutt. Don't forget, he also was the hero of their 1998 WC title.
At first, I thought this was another embellished title.
Really? In France? No wai. I'll take "Headlines The Onion Wishes They'd Thought Of First" for $800, Alex.
See this post accidentally :)) remind me of the that match, and the media that time all talked about it. After all, French never drops the faith in him, their hero.
