Welcome, mgoblog invaders...

Submitted by Ace on

I just posted this over at my site, but since most people have been directed straight to a specific article, I figured I'd repost it here:

It appears that, since Brian linked to my Glen Steele article, about 95% of my traffic is being directed from mgoblog. First, let me just say welcome. This blog just got resurrected after a year off, and it's great to get some traffic back after losing all of my (incredibly small) readership. Since the Steele feature was by far the most visited post I've ever had, I wanted to pose a question: who would you like to see me feature next in the "Where You At?" series. This whole 'getting constant traffic' thing is new to me, and I find it quite enjoyable. So, feel free to leave any names in the comments, as long as they played for any of the teams I cover, and I'll do my best to get to them. Thanks, and keep visiting!

Although, you'll have to call between 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM on Tuesday or Friday. Unless he traded his phone time for cigarettes.

Update:  I'm also curious why you have a picture of Placido Polanco in this post.

I began going to Michigan games with my Dad in the late 80's and early 90's. It seemed like we always had a kick ass running back.....but for some reason none of those guys really caught on in the NFL. I've always wondered why. If you could do a "Where Are They Now" on any of these guys I think it would be pretty interesting: - Ricky Powers - Jon Vaughn - Jarrod Bunch (FB) - Leroy Hoard (FB) - Tony Boles

Probably the best safety I ever saw Michigan have was Tripp Welborne (1987 - 1990; Randy Logan from the early '70's was also a great one and had a good NFL career), and he was absolutely one of the best punt returners as well. Unfortunately, he got hurt badly in his senior season and thus had no NFL career. I hope things worked out for him.

One of the sad offshoots of Brian getting BIG is that alot of those neurotic fucks from Scout are coming over, I think. That doesn't bode well for MgoBlog and the intelligence level of the posters, which has always been high (no pun intended). Scout is nothing but an over moderated jerk fest replete with requisite hero worship of about four guys that really makes the thinking man wretch.

Thanks for all the suggestions...one down, many to go, it appears. I'm definitely interested in posting on Leroy Hoard, since I actually remember watching him as a pro, Avery Queen, for obvious reasons, and Scott Driesbach, since I was at the '95 Virginia game. Ali Haji Sheik may also get a post, just because his name is awesome, and it'll be nice to reminisce on a time when Michigan had good kickers (K.C. Lopata nonwithstanding).

Dreisbach was playing LB for the Columbus Arena League team as recently as last season, I believe. He also played for the Raiders (or was at least on the roster) I think at some point, since I remember seeing him in Madden.

Dex, I believe that Dreisbach was on the Raiders for at least two years. Around that time there were several Michigan players with the Raiders: Woodson, Dreisback, Sam Sword (I believe), and one or two others. And regarding good kickers, we have had at least three outstanding kickers since the Sheik graduated. Remy Hamilton (Not the strongest leg, but very clutch and very accurate. Hit the game winner as time expired at ND in 1994. I believe that he held the record for highest career field goal percentage.) Mike Gillette (place kicker / punter / starting catcher. I believe that he went into minor league baseball following graduation. Famous for (i) missing a game winner as time expired against ND in 1988 I believe -- the Reggie Ho game, (ii) successfully executing the fake punt against MSU, and (iii) successfully executing a fake punt against USC in the 1990 Rose Bowl that the officials successfully killed with a mystery holding call (I believe that this was still Gillette, but I may be mistaken)) Jay Feely (accurate and very good on kickoffs. It seemed that he got more pumped up following a TD than anyone and it frequently resulted in a touchback.) And I'm not sure when Beregeron (spl?) played, he may have been before the Sheik, but he hit a game winner against ND as I recall. I seem to remember a quote in the paper (News or Freep??) asking Bo if he would let the kid eat at training table since he was a walk-on.) Hayden never lived up to expectations... His lack of accuracy more than offset his distance.
