Video of Stadium Screens in Action (from Inside)

I shot this at the Fan Day today...it was pretty much the highlight of the trip (thus back and on so soon) since I don't really get into autographs, and the free stuff was gone in like 15 minutes. (And no one is working the lines to make it easy to get around the Stadium). But there's still  a little outline for the edges, and the full screen shot still looks big...and pretty.

Any fuzz is due to my camera, not the screens. They were super clear.

I'm pretty sure iPads (iPhones and the like) don't support Adobe Flash content. Since the videos provided in this post are encoded for playback using the Flash Player, you probably won't be able to view the videos on your iPad. (Do a search for "Apple and Flash" and you will find quite a few news articles and press releases regarding the topic). FYI.

Panning to other, second from 40-50 yard line-ish. Should have included people for more perspective, but did it on a digital camera, not a video one, so zoom in and out was limited.

I'll say as one of those who thought from behind it didn't look like it filled the Stadium space well, inside it looks SO much bigger (as I was standing just a section closer from my seats). All that space used for just screen, and it is soooo much clearer. And if you notice, there's still space at the edge. I don't know if that'll be filled with more screen panels, or a border, but it's not full.

Not to say you're wrong. The distance is a bit of an optical illusion. The close one looks a lot bigger, but the far board doesn't look THAT much bigger. It's a trick of perspective on the eye, not just film.

What you see is all there will be as far as video boards (the side panels had been up previously but were removed to bring in the speakers).  Per the initial details, the width of the screen is 85 feet, but the overall structure width is 108 feet, leaving 11 1/2 feet of side panels on each side.  Each pixel is 16 mm in diameter I believe in the 1632 x 900 screen.

For fun, I plugged the numbers into a viewing distance calculator, and get a maximum recommended viewing distance of 439 feet.  This would not be optimal viewing such as for HD visual acuity (152 feet for that), but I should have a decent view through the crossbars on 9/17 without having to turn around all the time ...

Personally, I've always liked that the size of the stadium makes the scoreboards look small.  It was especially pronounced when we had the pre-1998 scoreboards.  When you have really huge scoreboards, it starts to make the rest of the stadium look smaller.  The ingenious thing here is that the scoreboards are relatively compact, but have a ton of screen space packed in.  It's the best of both worlds IMO.

Hopefully they won't be cluttered with ads for the entire game.

This board is made with CREE LED's.  They're the best.

Only one screen would be UNACCEPTABLE!

First, the video boards are MUCH bigger, brighter and INCREDIBLY clearer than anything you can ascertain from photos.  They are marvelous!

HOWEVER...a concern I had regarding the boards when I saw them online was confirmed by me when I arrived on the field for Media Day activities.  My concern was -- and is -- of the placement of the PLAY clocks on the new boards.  If you recall, the play clocks on the previous boards were positioned in the center of the scoreboard for easy viewing by Denard directly between the uprights.  (Who cares about the other team's QB?!)  The play clocks on the new boards are at the extreme bottom right, not in the center.  I noted, while the play clocks sit outside of the goal posts, they do NOT sit outside of the right catch net poles.  In fact, in certain areas of the field between the hash marks (I noted this near midfield), the right net pole cuts directly through the play clock.

I am envisioning Denard, after breaking the huddle, making a slight detour toward his right tackle to see the play clock before he returns under center to take the ball before throwing it to Roundtree for the winning TD.

As I was driving by the stadium last night they had the boards lit up, and holy shit. Heading north on Ann Arbor-Saline you can see the scoreboards shining through  the Golf Course Trees. And from what I could see of the stadium through the doors they basically light up the entire field. I'm really happy we got these
