Turpigskin - Thanksgiving 2010 Wallpaper

Submitted by monuMental on

Turkey and football are two pillars of the American Thanksgiving tradition, so I've combined the two into one disgusting image that I sincerely hope does not spoil your Thanksgiving appetite.

On my list of things that are worthy of giving thanks, there are many things that come before Michigan football. But not that many things. After two losing seasons, and in the midst of infighting amongst fans, it's easy to overlook the positives and forget about what we love about Michigan football. Now, I won't find seven or eight wins acceptable in any future season, but this is one example of something that is worth being thankful for given the current state of the program: a winning season. Here's the rest of my 2010 Michigan Football Thanksgiving list of thankful giving of thanks:

Bowl eligibility.

Denard Robinson vs Notre Dame.

An explosive offense.

Cease & desist letters for fake action figures that are not followed by lawsuits.

Tiny recievers who block like linemen.

Huge recievers who turn 50-50 jump balls into touchdowns.

Roy Roundtree's dependability.

Roy Roundtree's interviewability.

Winged helmets.

My daugter's winged helmet beanie.

A 'scrappy' backup quarterback (with wings on his helmet and everything).

Having not one, but two Michigan games to look forward to after Thanksgiving.

Watching Michigan vs Ohio State with friends and family.

The ability, time and venue to share my art with fellow fans.

The image below is a preview only. You can get the widescreen, 4:3, iPad and mobile wallpapers at The Art. The Art. The Art!.

2010 Thanksgiving Wallpaper Preview

How it was made

I've captured the creation of this special edition Thanksgiving wallpaper artwork and sped up the footage to condense a little over 2 hours of design time into just under 2 minutes of video. Watching this video is a little like watching Martha Stewart prepare a meal, but without Martha Stewart, without the food and without a purpose.

Okay, on re-watch it's just your smoke image, but for a brief second at 1:22 in the video I thought I saw you putting the outline of a female figure in the picture.

My best friend was in town last weekend and we spent a considerable amount of time talking about how awesome you are at making these. Unbelievable. Another incredible job.

I hope I don't get too gushy here, but besides your obvious graphic design abilities, I'm always impressed by your general creativity. I certainly couldn't come up with the designs you've put out this season. I love popping open my laptop each week and having a Michigan football theme for our upcoming opponent.

In the Michigan football world, I'm thankful for some of the following:

Denard, our receivers, our O-line - offense! I love the feeling before every snap that it could be an explosive, highlight-reel play.

RichRod's tireless optimism. While he can be criticized for a number of things that have happened to the program, I applaud him for his resolve and determination to be successful and keep the players upbeat, motivated, and playing hard for him. It helps to keep me, an optimist that can turn cynic, looking at the positives when it's easy to be a Debbie Downer.

Bowl game! I still regret not going to the Rose Bowl as a freshman in 04/05 because "with a freshman QB, RB and all this talent, we'll be in the nat'l title before I graduate," and the past three seasons have made me grateful for all the Michigan success in the 90s and 2000s.

Stories like Brock Mealer's amazing perseverance to work against the odds and shed light on what is really important when we oftentimes get too caught up in the Xs and Os of the football season.

These are just a few. Thanks for sharing a love of Michigan athletics with me. Happy Turkey Day!

stuck with a choice of duck or brisket tomorrow (so she'd at least have virtual turkey, and M turkey at that), and within seconds she'd posted it on her Facebook page.  Will I get a cease and desist letter?  Of course it includes your quote and it links to your website, so... Doesn't hurt to spread the word and the work and the brilliance.  SImply terrific.

Thanks for all the awesome wallpapers all season long. My wife and I look forward to a new one each week. I don't post often but appreciate the hard work! Every week my coworkers come by my desk to see the new design. Very unique and well done!

Thank you and Go Blue!

I think I speak for everybody when I humbly request a Lloyd Brady wallpaper. He has been the single most consistent factor in all of Michigan football this year, save my love for Denard, and deserves to be honored for time immemorial.
