TomVH: Weekend Visitors

Submitted by TomVH on

Tom is having trouble posting on the site, so follow him on Twitter for the latest updates - Tim

Confirmed visitors:

  • TX TE Chris Barnett. Arkansas soft commit. Also considering Texas A&M and others.
  • MI RB Thomas Rawls. Looking for a Michigan offer (waiting on a qualifying test score). Announcing on Signing Day.
  • OH LB Commit Antonio Poole. Committed to Michigan Tuesday.
  • MD DT Darian Cooper. Had an in-home with DC Greg Mattison yesterday. Scout's Gene Hankerson is feeling good about the situation there. Iowa and Michigan State are the main competition. Iowa was out in front, who knows if the news that they try to kill their players will affect him.
  • OH DE Commit Keith Heitzman. Committed last Saturday.

Arizona OL Ryan Nowicki is not coming. He has been telling me he feels good about being committed to Penn State, so it's not a big surprise. They were in on Ryan late anyway, so it shouldn't come as a shock to anyone.

Don't be surprised if some of these guys end up committing to Michigan on Signing Day - or even before that, if the visit weekend goes well. Expect some of Michigan's current commits to unofficially visit as well.

The list is subject to change over the next 24 hours. Stay tuned for updates.

Just saw a tweet from Steve Wiltfong from 247 sports that Clark pushed announcement back to signing day instead of tomorrow. Anyone else have any other news about him? Would be great to establish a connection at Glenville.

Great. Darian Cooper will be a huge get.  I would also like to land Chris Barnett.  Obviously, I want them all.  But those are my top 2, must gets for this visit.  Come on down Chris Bryant tomorrow!

...Iowa AD and Ferentz to not attend yesterday's press conference about the hospitalized Iowas players was not well thought out. It has the potential for some real lasting negative effects.

If you look at Ryan Nowicki's scout profile and then look at Taylor Lewans two words stand out on both NASTY STREAK, I like it!! Can you imagine the left side if Nowicki moves to guard, somebody's gonna get hurt!

I hope there's no pressing interviews or appointments for the new coach from Feb. 3 to Feb. 10.  I am starting to believe that Hoke and his staff will sleep for 168 STRAIGHT HOURS once the Signing Day press conference wraps.

Was anybody else a little spooked by Cooper's interview with The Wolverine?

Check out this exchange?

As for Mattison, Cooper was asked if he grew up a Baltimore Ravens fan.

"Not really, but I like their defense," Cooper said.

Was he aware that Mattison was defensive coordinator of the Ravens this season?

"No, not really," Cooper said. "I'm not that into football, to be honest."

It probably means nothing, but I got a JT Turner like chill down my spine.   If you want to play football at Michigan I think you better get "into" football.   It was definitely a little different than the usual oh yeah I love Ray Lewis I like to eat quaterbacks for lunch type quotes you usually get.

GBW: Before we get started, I need you to address the rumor that you’re “not that into football.

Darian Cooper: "I wouldn’t play football if I didn’t like it. It’s too much of a commitment and social killer (laughing) to play and not like it. The writer from that site was asking me all type of questions about people and things that happened way back in 1975 or something. I didn’t know any of that stuff. So I told him I’m not into (the history of) football like that."

Why I would start to believe anything I read in print is a mystery.   The last 3 years have scarred me to be skeptical of everything so I'm glad  you found that.  Just example number 43,754 of terrible journalism.    Any decent reporter would have followed up that answer if Cooper actually said it so he could clarify or he would have used the entire conversation so the context of the quote was not changed.

HUGE gettting DCoop on campus as well as Barnett. I would really like to see both of these kids commit this weekend. Cooper is coming with his Mom on their own dime - In the sales world that's called a buying sign and they need to be closed immediately! Get em on campus and UM is hard to say no too.

DCoop & CBarnett....C'mon down!

Great update Tom.  Your dig at Iowa was pretty good.  I'd be concerned if I were Darian after reading that story.  I'd be pretty darn happy if we ended up getting Bryant, Cooper, Willingham, Fisher, and Rawls when all the smoke clears.  Throw in Barnett and and then we're talking perfect.

I had major doubts about Hoke being able to save this class when he was hired. He seems to be doing a hell of a job so far. Keep it up BH and thanks for the updates Tom! Iv beeb following you on twitter too.

No idea how they'll do on the field, but I'm loving the effort Hoke and Mattison and the gang are showing. I think we will see a reenergized team come the spring game. Go Blue

I have to say taht this recruiting class is shaping up very nicely.  Would love to see Rawls make it on board.  Love the effort by Hoke and Mattison with such a short time span to get things done.

Found this on Maize n' Brew that sums up their recruiting pretty well...
