TomVH: Kyle Kalis Comments on the Rumors Surrounding his Commitment

Submitted by TomVH on

Once the news broke that the NCAA didn't find any new infractions with the Ohio State case naturally everyone turned their thoughts to recruiting. How would this affect any prospects that are considering Ohio State, and more relavent to Michigan how would it affect Kyle Kalis?

There has been some scuttlebutt among Ohio State fans that Kalis would eventually switch back to the Buckeyes despite the fact that a good amount of their fans trashed him on the internet for making the switch in the first place.

Kalis has been saying all along that he is solid to Michigan and won't re think his decision no matter what happens with the sanctions at Ohio State. Today he had this to say about the situation:

Despite all the speculation about the limited sanctions that Ohio State will receive, I've grown to love Michigan too much to ever consider going back. I'm excited to get up there next season and to start what I know is going to be a new chapter in Michigan history, and with the amazing class that my head coach Brady Hoke is putting together.

Pretty strong words for a soon to be high school senior. When I brought the topic up he laughed and said none of it was true. There's always speculation that happens with recruiting, and I never say never but this should reassure Michigan fans on where Kalis stands on his recruitment.

Kalis has also been recruiting for Michigan, and has already started to build friendships with his future fellow classmates.

...is a good blogger, who is a homer.  That is fine.  I respect Long for what he does, but he is not an unbiased viewer.

As for Kalis...you can't go home again.  OSU fans were the ones that burned bridges, I think.  Before the vile attacks, maybe there was some slim possibility of Kalis at least thinking about  his decision.  OSU fans are idiots if they don't realize that they themselves ended all debate for Kyle on this issue.

How does Duane Long have any credibility as a journalist? I just read the latest Duane Long Report from a couple days ago and the man cannot spell and writes incomplete sentences. However, he is from ohio and supports the suckeyes, so all of that pretty much makes sense.

put an end to this "suckeyes" "fecal" "nOsu" crap. Where did you guys come from? We don't look londly on childish antics like that around here. Stick to OSU sites if you like taking part in that foolishness.

Considering my wife saw a pic of him standing over an opponent he'd just pancaked while his RB danced into the end zone, and then asked what PRO team his uniform was, (because hes that damn big and mean) I'd say we're damned glad to have him.

Has got to be one of my favorite recruits this class. Actually I really like a lot of this year's class. They're all funny and love Michigan.

All the makings of a true Michigan Man...character, class, passion...

It's going to be a blast cheering him on the field and watching him mature as a man.

I was not big on the Hoke hire when it first broke, and was adamant that a big name coach was needed to make this program rise from the ashes. But I have eaten my words. Hoke can do no wrong so far. His ability to recruit, establish relationships and say all the right things are really having positive effects on the program and the fan base. Cannot wait for this season and seasons to come.

PS...still hoping Kalis can get Brionte Dunn to come to Ann Arbor with him!!

This summer has delivered far more than I expected**, even as a strong Hoke supporter*, this kind of recruiting (of which Kyle Kalis is the pinnacle example) is hopefully the first signs of the kind of success he built when Ball State of all teams had a perfect 2008 regular season, or (as more relevant to recent success) or had the foresight to recruit a little-known California QB named Tom Brady.

*At least, since approximately ten-to-fifteen minutes into his first speech as Michigan's head coach. Aside: I'm also proud to say I watched the Poinsetta Bowl rooting for SDSU simply because he was a Michigan man--but I won't pretend I thought he would or particularly wanted him to be our next HC.

Warning: OT OSU rant

**Except, that is, regarding the NCAA's complete lack of spine when it saw how ridiculous OSU was willing to look to avoid punishing itself (i.e. Tressel knew nothing, oh wait he was the mastermind, especially now that TP can't be subpoenaed, and we by coincidence stopped doing written records of compliance reviews after they noticed Tressel and co weren't doing any monitoring of the players' cars... or any monitoring, really), and how much money OSU brings in consistently; as if there aren't enough college football fans to fill that gap at the bowls and in television slots.

He is already starting to understand what it means to be apart of the Michigan Family and what it takes to be a Michigan Man... Can't wait for the season to start!!
