TomVH: Kellen Jones Commitment Quotes
I just talked to Michigan's 9th commit of the year, LB Kellen Jones, and he was as excited as can be. We talked about his decision, his visit, and what happened in Rich Rodriguez' office when he told the coaches. Here's some one line quotes for you:
- "Michigan is a family, and just seeing that really reinforced everything for me. It was really everything I was looking for. I prayed about my decision, and God told me Michigan was where I was supposed to be. I wanted to take this visit to clarify that, and it did."
- "I actually made my decision about 2 or 3 weeks ago, but like I said I just wanted the visit to make sure. We got to see the summer workouts, see the Big House, and all the players. It was so exciting. I can't wait to play in the Big House, I mean it's the Big House. We got to go to the top and look into the stadium, and my whole family was just excited."
- "My family was there with me, and I had told my Dad that I would be committing, but I hadn't told the coaches yet. He wanted me to tell them because Michigan was his dream school, so he was as excited as I was. I actually think he was even more excited than me, he was going crazy."
- "We were in Coach Rodriguez' office, and my family was in there with me. I told Coach that I was committing, and my whole family broke into the Michigan fight song. My Dad, Uncle, me, everybody was singing the fight song. Coach Rodriguez laughed and said he had never seen that before. He was shocked."
This kid and his family appear to bleed Maize n Blue. His comment about UM being a family and his wanting to be a part of it is encouraging. I hope that the school does not can RR for a mediocre season (if that happens) and destroy what he has built with these recruits and the current team so far. Keep recruiting these kinds of kids and RR's "system" will finally be in place. The outlook is aMaizn!
I have not been following recruiting for long enough to know if these kinds of stories were common under previous coaches, but the kids Rodriguez is bringing in are just absolutely awesome. So many of these kids have great attitudes and seem to believe Michigan is a special program for them, not just a way of getting to the NFL. I wish Kellen the best of luck.
I can only imagine what euphoria his parents must be feeling right about now
I kind of know the feeling. Listening to the fight song the day I received my acceptance was just incredible.
like Kellen!!
in your signature. +1 for that. Also for your comment, which I wholeheartedly agree with
and I really, really hope that pun is solved this year. Please let our corners have a sense of direction this year
His signature actually reminds me of something you'd read in Ender's Game.
I couldn't stop smiling while reading his quotes!!! Love how his family bleeds Maize & Blue. Great addition to the family.
When those kids are backed up by whole families who WANT Michigan as much as their son (or daughter), the sky's the limit.
There is a quote very similar to that from Bo, in his book by John U. Bacon, take the kids that want you, they will always play harder, always practice harder.
Great to have this kid on the team.
I'll take kids like this all day over pre-madonna 5-stars, Welcome Kellen Jones and GO BLUE!!!!!
We may have covered this before, but it's really the post-madonnas we've gotta watch out for.
I needs to know.
For all intensive purposes, yeah.
Its Prima Donna, not Pre-Madonna. And "all intents and purposes" not "all intensive purposes" (for the post a few below)
..... The More You Know.
But I agree, this kid seems ready to work hard for a school he loves. Thats an awesome quality. The fact that hes a linebacker makes it that much sweeter.
That time period in the late 70's and early 80's when back in the day 5 stars had way to much attitude...
This is 100% Pure Colombian Awesome!!!
Everything I read about this kid just makes me like him more and more!!!
Sounds like he really respects his parents, and honors the Lord. And has a good GPA!
Love that his family sang The Victors, too!!! Kellen is very quickly becoming a favorite.
It's great to have a players the really want to be at Michigan!!
I thought only Urban Meyer talked to God. Were lucky UF didn't offer.../sarcasm.
I told Coach that I was committing, and my whole family broke into the Michigan fight song. My Dad, Uncle, me, everybody was singing the fight song.
Funny: When Brian told me you were committing, I had the same exact reaction.
the free press shows this story, Family singing to RR, sounds like good family values before enrolling.
Like the Freep but many more as well. I think he is a good coach and will have a long and successful career in Ann Arbor. I know he is a good man who cares about his players AND their families. Witness Brock Mealor, for one. Men of personal integrity who genuinely care about the people whose lives they impact are few and far between. Rich Rodriguez is one of them.
Welcome aboard Mr. Jones.
Michigan can't have enough linebackers at this point. More please.
Am tickled piink!
