TomVH: Kellen Jones Commitment Quotes

Submitted by TomVH on

I just talked to Michigan's 9th commit of the year, LB Kellen Jones, and he was as excited as can be. We talked about his decision, his visit, and what happened in Rich Rodriguez' office when he told the coaches. Here's some one line quotes for you:

  • "Michigan is a family, and just seeing that really reinforced everything for me. It was really everything I was looking for. I prayed about my decision, and God told me Michigan was where I was supposed to be. I wanted to take this visit to clarify that, and it did."
  • "I actually made my decision about 2 or 3 weeks ago, but like I said I just wanted the visit to make sure. We got to see the summer workouts, see the Big House, and all the players. It was so exciting. I can't wait to play in the Big House, I mean it's the Big House. We got to go to the top and look into the stadium, and my whole family was just excited."
  • "My family was there with me, and I had told my Dad that I would be committing, but I hadn't told the coaches yet. He wanted me to tell them because Michigan was his dream school, so he was as excited as I was. I actually think he was even more excited than me, he was going crazy."
  • "We were in Coach Rodriguez' office, and my family was in there with me. I told Coach that I was committing, and my whole family broke into the Michigan fight song. My Dad, Uncle, me, everybody was singing the fight song. Coach Rodriguez laughed and said he had never seen that before. He was shocked."

That's a great story.  I love them breaking out in the M fight song...

I tell you what, I dream of my son playing for Michigan someday.  Probably won't happen, but if it ever did, I too would sing the fight song and I'm not afraid to say, I'd be crying tears of joy...

Dreams can come true....

I would definitely sing and cry at the same time.  As a 5'8 dad at 160, my hopes for my little man wearing the winged helmet are limited by genetics.  The wife's family are great athletes so they is a chance.  We'll start speed drills for the slot, and maybe some kicking.  He is only 2, and he keeps fumbling the ball so we're not off to a stellar start.

If either one of my boys have the chance to play football at Michigan, or any sport for that matter, I'm not ashamed to admit I'll be crying like a baby.  I'd be one proud daddy.

I'm so happy for Kellen and his family.  Kellen grew up a Michigan fan in Texas, because of his dad, and now he has the chance to play football in the Big House - a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I'm sure that his dad is very proud of him right now.

I'm also sure that Kellen and his family shed many tears of joy tonight, and there's nothing wrong with that.

that's so grounded in his faith. A sure sign of a solid family structure. A family structure that saw THE SAME FAMILY TRAITS in RR & crew. I'm ecstatic about where this program is headed...and that's back to where it belongs. On top. And doing it the right way. Kudos to Coach Rod & staff. Also, a big thanks to Tom for excellent info. Go Blue!!

Karamel. "Met" her at a certain gentleman's establishment in Atlanta. Certainly not the worst $200 I've ever spent. As you can tell, she earned her place as my avatar. Well, at least until I go back to Atl & "meet" another one while away on business. Who says work can't be productive??

I don't want to wait for Hollywood.  I'd love to see the real thing.  Including RR's face.  (Oh, and please include the audio.)

Thanks TvH.  Only took a few minute nap and you were back with more.

...incredibly cool story.  Talk about a proud papa.  I hope the Jones family is having a great celebratory meal somewhere in A2 tonight.  That's a kid that was destined to don the winged helmet and rep our maize and blue.

...tweet from TomVH:

TomVH Post-commit interview with Kellen Jones got cut short. He was so excited and amped up about everything, he wanted to take 20 to calm down

This is beyond awesome.  Coolest commit story EVAR.  Also, I can't imagine what it would be like as a dad when your son commits to play football at Michigan.  That's pretty special.

This is such a great story. I'm so happy for Kellen and his entire family. Informing coach of your commitment and then breaking out into the "Victors" sounds like another new tradition in the Michigan family. GO BLUE!
