TomVH: Iowa Visitors
Here's the list of recruits I have confirmed coming in for the Iowa game. As always, this list will have names added and dropped as it gets closer to game day. I'm going out of town from Thursday until Monday though, so there won't be much if anything from me until Monday. Please refrain from making the, "Yeah, but what about defensive recruits?!" comments. Just because there aren't many visiting for this game doesn't mean Michigan isn't recruiting them; they are.

Thanks for letting us know you'll be gone Tom. It won't be easy, but I'm going to do my best to get through it. I appreciate having a few days to prepare myself for your absence.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:09 PM ^
as a bunch of alumni will be around town for homecoming.
October 12th, 2010 at 4:30 PM ^
to fumigate and clean out the remnant Sparty funk. (yes, still feeling a bit bitter.)
Tom, thanks for the update. Always appreciated. Good to know we've got a great group of prospects coming into the Big House this weekend.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:11 PM ^
Also, where the HELL are the defensive recruits? I couldn't resist. Keep up the good work, Tom.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:12 PM ^
Kris will be there for the Wisconsin game. I wouldn't worry about him.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:14 PM ^
I knew he had to reschedule last week but hadn't heard anything. I appreciate it.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:37 PM ^
I seriously think he will be blue. Hopefully we let him RS as a WR like he wants and then he sees the light and turns into the LB. That would be Boss... or BAWS as the kids like to say.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:12 PM ^
i think sammy watkins might get that fifth star.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:13 PM ^
For those asking about defense, Dallas Crawford is a very talented player. He plays quarterback at his high school, but I think he'd be a great fit for Michigan at corner.
Also, Sammy Watkins is one of the best players in Florida and the nation. He could immediate contribute at wide receiver or free safety, so keep your fingers crossed, Watkins is a player.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:22 PM ^
Thanks JC. I didn't know Watkins could play safety. Dual threat.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:49 PM ^
It's cool though, we don't really need safeties.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:32 PM ^
Yeah, is safety something Watkins has expressed interest in/been offered to play (by M or others)?
October 12th, 2010 at 3:34 PM ^
Watkins is recruited to play WR. He would be a great deep threat who can stretch the defense vertically.
October 12th, 2010 at 7:59 PM ^
I remember another guy who could play both sides of the ball for UofM...I am not saying that Watkins is the next Charles Woodson, but I'm not saying he's not :)
October 12th, 2010 at 3:14 PM ^
Any word on who that super secret super awesome recruit is supposed to be?
October 12th, 2010 at 3:16 PM ^
that Sam Webb has been hinting at that is coming in this weekend? Is it Karlos Williams?
Is that visit off or just on the down low?
October 12th, 2010 at 3:25 PM ^
I mentioned Karlos in my weekly update yesterday. He told the coaches that he'll most likely take his official visit after the season.
I don't know who Sam Webb is talking about, because I don't talk to Sam Webb. I do know of a visitor that could be coming in for the Wisconsin game that wants to keep it quiet though.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:28 PM ^
Sam is saying the same thing (that the kid wants to keep it quiet) but coming in for Iowa.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:43 PM ^
It's probably two different people; I don't really know without him telling me who he's talking about.
October 12th, 2010 at 4:14 PM ^
Why don't you have his people call your people? They can talk and then call my people. Then all of our people can talk to other people's people and, by that time, the season will be over and everyone will know the secret 5-star visitor(s)!
October 12th, 2010 at 5:24 PM ^
Tell your friends, to get with my friends, we can be friends. S$$T, we can do this every weekend. Excuse me while I go fill my belly with a T-Bone steak, cheese, eggs, and Welch's grape.
October 12th, 2010 at 4:56 PM ^
My lame attempt at a guess is Ha-ha. He might be coming up with Dee Hart for the Wisconsin game.
October 12th, 2010 at 4:19 PM ^
the two "mystery" visitors are currently committed to another school and don't want to be revealed until they actually take the visit. Sam is just keeping his word and not revealing them just yet.
October 12th, 2010 at 9:37 PM ^
My guess remains Christian Westerman. Big time kid that had big interest in Michigan before he committed to Texas, southern kid, and already committed elsewhere
October 12th, 2010 at 10:11 PM ^
Is Arizona really the south or is it more of the west?
October 12th, 2010 at 10:24 PM ^
Isn't Florida more southeast? I mean, if you wanna get technical.
October 12th, 2010 at 10:29 PM ^
You are absolutely right, I was just wondering. I guess it's just what I am use to that the South is pretty much all the confederate states.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:21 PM ^
Gotta have that!! "Bringin' da' Thunder!!"
Pair him with the no. 1 slot ninja and you have... "Thunder -n- Lightning".... (insert cheesy rimshot here)
October 12th, 2010 at 3:23 PM ^
His name has some serious NOTY potential.
October 12th, 2010 at 4:01 PM ^
We need a slot ninja named Jeffery Blight. Then we could avoid cheesy nicknames and use awesome ones like "Funder and Blightning!"
October 12th, 2010 at 3:25 PM ^
the only acceptable place for TomVH to be, other than the TomVHcave, is in Ann Arbor. keep an eye out for him
October 12th, 2010 at 3:27 PM ^
How many wide receivers are we looking to take?
October 12th, 2010 at 3:29 PM ^
Hopefully this visit buttons up Watkins and Crawford, those are the 2 main 2011 guys at this game, unless Zettel is stopping by.
Side note Tom whats with the "I wouldn't worry about him" comment on Frost??? Are you holding some important info from us????
October 12th, 2010 at 3:56 PM ^
and will make it back up here for sure. The one key for him is distance from home.
He may pick Auburn just because it's closer. Michigan will have it's shot to sell him on coming to A2 and I think his heart is with the Maize and Blue.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:43 PM ^
I am so excited about the future of this team. The offense lets the defense dictate what it will do and it is unstoppable. If the CBs jam they fake a WR shimmy and hit the slant. If they play off they hit the WR shimmy. The zone read when run to perfection is a 4 or 5 yard gimme. Denard is in his 6th start and already is putting up video game numbers and he doesn't yet fully understand the O. Think about when he is a senior and he is playing against a defense full of players younger than him! Add D-Hart to the mix... The D will add Wolfolk, JT will have another year, BWC will be out there, Marvin, Roh, Furman! The beauty is the defense doesn't even have to be great if the O does what it is capable of doing. An average D with this O can win a NC. This is going to be so fucking fun to watch. Don't know why I just got excited, but I did.
October 12th, 2010 at 4:40 PM ^
These are the kind of posts that are needed here. There is way too much negativity around here following the Sparty loss. Thanks bro. God Bless!
October 12th, 2010 at 4:47 PM ^
Furman!!!!! I forgot about him. I assume he is redshirting!! Hopefully he can learns well and gets Barwisized so that he can compete for a job next year!!
October 12th, 2010 at 3:45 PM ^
and a 6'5 kid? thats sweet.. how come we haven't heard much about him though? does he have an offer?
October 12th, 2010 at 3:56 PM ^
...have been featured here regularly since their visit for the Spring Game. I'd characterize their coverage as a slow boil. Always there, and always ready to go to the next level as soon as any new fuel is provided. Looks like it's being applied.
October 12th, 2010 at 5:18 PM ^
I'm pretty sure the 6'5" guy, and one he hadn't heard much about is Funderburk. And yes, from what I read on Rivals last week he does have an offer.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:52 PM ^
The recruits should enjoy the team and Denard bouncing back to defeat the Hawkeyes.
Go Blue
October 12th, 2010 at 4:03 PM ^
I hadn’t heard of Quinta Funderburk before so I looked him up and his recruit rating status is a bit unusual.
He's a 6’5, 204 lb receiver who accumulated 1,150 yards and 12 TDs his junior year.
He holds offers from Michigan, Alabama, Florida, USC, PSU, VaTech and Arkansas, just to name a few…
Yet Rivals has him rated at 5.7, which makes him a 3-star recruit.
I wonder what’s holding him back from that 4th star.

October 12th, 2010 at 11:39 PM ^
It is the same story for Hakeem Flowers. He has offers from everyone yet is rated the #107 WR to scout (http://virginiatech.scout.com/a.z?s=191&p=8&c=1&nid=4416009) and the #72 for rivals (http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Hakeem-Flowers-100849). He's a three star on both and hopefully he'll get more recognition because his offers seem to suggest he is a lot better player.
October 12th, 2010 at 4:28 PM ^
and people listen.
Kris Frost.....I wouldnt worry about him.
Me likes!!
October 12th, 2010 at 4:36 PM ^
really glad that wormley will be at the game. he has to be one of the top targets for our class next year
also is it safe to say that crawford will be on committment watch after this visit? its seems like we have been out front for a while and he loved his visit for the spring game. he would be a huge pick up and will help recruit watkins
October 12th, 2010 at 4:43 PM ^
Saw no mention of him or his comments/reaction to the game and his visit - anything to report?
October 12th, 2010 at 4:51 PM ^
Zettel's response is behind the rivals paywall. We still "slightly lead" and wants to see us finish strong.
October 12th, 2010 at 4:55 PM ^
as always!
October 12th, 2010 at 4:55 PM ^
We can dispense with the "RR only likes small, speedy receivers" narrative
