TomVH: DE/LB Austin Traylor Update

Submitted by TomVH on

Everyone's a little bitter about Ed Davis committing to MSU, which is fine. This isn't one of those, "I didn't want him anyway" posts, because the coaches don't care who we want and they did want him. This is just more of a "hey we have other options, so don't worry" post.

A recruit that hasn't been mentioned much is Austin Traylor out of Columbus, Ohio. Before you start groaning about where he's from, he doesn't have an OSU offer, and they have plenty of defensive ends.

Traylor is a 4 star on Rivals, and the 9th best weakside defensive end. He's stayed relatively quiet, and hasn't updated much about where he's at. He's always maintained that Michigan is in it for him, and he did the same when I spoke with him today.

Michigan is in it, yeah. They say they want me for defensive end, or outside linebacker. I haven't narrowed my list down yet, but I'll take all my official visits, and maybe some unofficial ones too, then make my choice.

Traylor is 6-foot-4, and only 210-pounds, which is what he told me he weighs today. Oddly enough, he's roughly the same size as Davis. A little light for a defensive end, and he actually lines up as a tight end on offense, too. It sounds like he might be better suited for outside linebacker.

The other offers Austin holds are Arizona, Boston College, Cincinnati, MSU, NC State, West Virginia, and Wisconsin among others. Like I said, he's been quiet, but we will know more in a few days.

I'm going to sit down these next two days and figure out my list. I'll be able to tell you what it is by Saturday. I'll have everything narrowed down by then.

Considering the fact that he knows I write for a Michigan site, and he's going to tell me his list, that's usually a good sign that Michigan will be somewhere on that list. It's not a guarantee, but it's a good sign nonetheless.

Traylor seems to be a good option at the outside linebacker spot, and don't forget about Kris Frost, who could most likely end up on defense, as well. With the commitment from MLB Kellen Jones, if we could land Traylor and Frost, we would be in pretty good shape.

Plays for Walnut Ridge.  I saw him more as a LB than DE...definitely, at this point, too thin for DE.  Maybe could grow into it?  Has speed and strength.  Didn't know we were even looking at him...I believe he visited MSU?

recruit. Is their any take on him on Michigan's end? Are we interested in him?, and what are the chances we actually have at getting him? He would be a welcome addition along with the Frost and Jones.

It is Roosevelt D. Smith #26RB/FB out of Cass Tech for the jerk off who said Cissoko. He played with Wolfolk, Leach, Carter,Simpkins etc. it would seem to me that people who like the same football team would get along. I have made nary a negative comment or off base comment and I have been at negative for about what two months. Now I know there are a few guys in here who seem to know their shit and I have no problems with them at all, but for the ones who dropp negs no matter what I just want you to know and you know who you that no matter  how many points you deduct my dick will still be bigger than yours. You can take that shit and eat it because these points are not an extension of your penis size or lack thereof. Much respect to those who actually add informative stuff and do not hate on people, for what? Liking Blue.

my recent post and tell me where I did or said anything that deserved any of the neg bombs that I have recieved. The first time I posted and thereafter all I have seen is negatvity and this is from agroup that has a guy from Notre Dame in it. Why does my screename garner negativity. Not once did I come in here and boast of naything other than using the connotation. Last the reason I went that route is because I was pissed off with the up and down of my points as all I did was ask a few questions about the recruit. BTW is that fact or your opinion of someones fact of you(my penis size) because again I said it being pissed not for you to get all emotional about me saying what I said.

Isn't there several other LB's that are high on the list as well?  Kid from KY, OH, FL?

By no means is this sour grapes but I wasn't too impressed with Davis and I get the feeling that the staff wasn't as well.  Davis' quotes after he got back from MSU pretty much was the foreshadowing of what was ultimatley going to happen.

Other and better LB's will come!

No matter what, I would call him Tractor, connotation be damned.

Very highly ranked kid, I think he'd be great at LB if he doesn't put on a ton of weight.  I like it.

Good info Tom.  I like that he is 6'4 and athletic.  We can always put some weight on him and use him a couple different ways.  We need to keep recruiting DEFENSE.

Speaking of OLD/DE recruits.  Is Deion Barnes the same type of recruit as Traylor? Or is he more of a typical DE type of player.  IIRC, Barnes had some interest in Michigan.

I think so, but if Traylor is 60/40 LB, then Barnes is 60/40 DE.  Barnes is bigger than Traylor by an inch and 10lbs, not a lot, but I think it tips the scales more toward being a DE in college.  6'5" is getting to be kind of tall for an OLB, but if he can move and isn't 265 in 2 years (which I think is unlikely) then he could be.

But I see Barnes putting a lot of weight on that frame and being strictly a DE.

Sounds like a good kid by Tom's interview so I hope we can land him, or any 4* LB from Ohio for that matter. I also hope he can stay at LB. I just get the feeling he would not be big enough to play DE in a 3-3-5, even with added weight. Has anyone heard any news on Dawson, the LB from Kentucky? It sounded like he may stay close to home a few months ago.

What can be done to change the situation at Detroit Southeastern HS?

That coach has total mind control on those kids, and he hates UM as much as he loves MSU.
