There's absolutely no way that ends up on a bulletin board somewhere
TomVH: DeAnthony Arnett's Top Six
I just got off the phone with DeAnthony Arnett's brother, Ralph, who helps DeAnthony with his recruitment. They have a solid group of schools that make up his top six, and there will only be one school that could be added.
The top six is (in no order), USC, Cal, Oklahoma, MSU, Tennessee, and Iowa. The wildcard that could be thrown in, if they offer, is Miami.
Apparently, the recent quarterback commit to Miami, Teddy Bridgewater, really likes DeAnthony, and wants him at Miami. The only reason Miami hasn't offered yet is because their recruiting coordinator left, and coach Shannon never got to finish watching his film. It seems like they might be a big player, if the offer comes.
Ralph told me his take on everything with Michigan and DeAnthony is that at the end of the day, he has to do what's best for him, and he doesn't feel that offense will get him to the next level. He dropped Notre Dame for the same reasons, and said the only spread he would want to play in is Oklahoma's. It has nothing to do with the coaches at Michigan, who they think very highly of, or any other reason. Both Ralph and DeAnthony think that Rich Rod will have a lot of success at Michigan, it's just not the place for him to be a big time receiver, like he wants to be.
please don't go to MSU please

For his sake, I hope he doesn't go to MSU (see Charles Rogers and plaxico burress)
Fab 5 5Xs
Those are terrible examples to get him to go somewhere other than MSU. I know that's your point, but those examples will probably make a kid think, "hey, if I have a decent head on my shoulders, which I think I do, I can make sweet cash and not blow it by being an idiot."
On another note, this is sad, we would all like Arnett, but I respect his desision. As a player at his stage, whether it is true or not, you can't force yourself into a situation you don't believe in. Whether the Michigan offense could turn him into an NFL talent or not isn't the debate (though it may be debatable), all that matters is that if you don't feel a style of offense will get you to the next level, then it won't. I wish him the best of luck.
A minor point to elaborate even further
Dantonio hasn't put any big time WRs in the NFL either (started coaching in 07). Giving him credit for Rogers or Plaxico would be like giving Rich Rod credit for Braylon.
Sidenote: Not saying that you guys were giving him credit, but I am sick of people talking about MSU like it is wideout university.
Sign up AJ Jordan.
They mostly come at night... mostly.
That is respectable. If he doesn't end up at Miami, I would have to say MSU looks like the team to beat IMO. MSU could end up with a good class, as much as I hate to say it. They could end up with Arnett, Justice Hayes, and obviously Lawrence Thomas. I think both MSU and Michigan are improving football teams, but Michigan's ceiling is much higher.

Would he really want to be the next great MSU receiver? Don't they all end up in jail after the NFL?
In such a cynical, sarcastic society, oftentimes looking for the negative on anybody or anything, if you're fortunate enough to spend five minutes or 20 minutes around Tim Tebow, your life is better for it. -Thom Brennaman
Sometimes even before.
Sounds like a very legit reason to pass on a school. And sounds like a very respectful way to do it. Good luck to him (hopefully in the ACC or Big Pac 16)
Class of '97: 4 Years -- 4 Four-loss seasons
Well, the day can't get any worse for UM, can it?
This development shouldn't come as a surprise to people who follow recruiting. He hasn't had much good to say about Michigan in a long, long time. The writing was already on the wall.
Is not a done deal yet. It ain't over till it's over. And if it's over we will live with it. I've lived with 33 years (freshman in '67) of heartbreaks and thrills and I promise you this is extremely minor on the heartbreak scale if it indeed does happen.
I mourn the passing of the Pretzel Bell (P-Bell), Mr. Flood's Party and The Del Rio but Pizza Bob's still lives on.
It is 43 fucking years. Please allow me a brain spasm...I was there in the late 60's so you can imagine what may have happened to my brain then...along with witnessing the beginning of Bo's career... and since... I was at The Big House for the horror.

I luv The U so if he's not going to Michigan then hey go to Miami. DA could really help them out down there and whats not to love about Miami? The city, the tradition, and damn they put some beasts into the NFL
...to DA. If Michigan isn't a fit for him, then he needs to go elsewhere.
How are we doing with Sammy Watkins and Dallas Crawford?

well it's to bad about DeAnthony but at the same time
We have limited scholarships to offer, and even though i would have love to land him truth be told we didn't really need him. If we can land 1 more WR in this class with elite speed like Jordan to go along with Conway we should be okay .. I just hope that Jordan or another WR that has elite speed decides to come whom ever that may be.

I bet Arnett goes out of state. With USC, Oklahoma, and Miami (That Miami) on his list, the only way I think he'd end up at MSU is if he were a student at Detroit Ren or Southeastern. And he doesn't go to either of those schools.
I live in South Florida and "The U" football is highly respected but it is an urban campus and the stadium is nowhere near campus. Being a Wolverine alum and Michigan Dad, there is no place that really rivals Michigan for a large college experience. Think....walking to The Big House from campus to a game. It's enough to get your testicles tingling.

Could not agree more. Not being able to walk to the game (and pregame along the way) suchs a lot. My senior we lived on State St and would see about 50,000 ppl walk by our house on the way to the stadium.

not that i give a damn about points, but who the hell can neg you for that response?

I don't give a fuck about an Oxford comma.
I put up a tough front, but deep down I just want to be held.
There are people on this board who consistently neg comments for reasons having nothing to do with the actual comment. I saw a good deal of it going on over the weekend, with one commenter in particular being the target. I suspect it's juvenile personal hostilities that are at play and I've brought the issue up with Brian in an email. Not sure if anything can or should be done, and I don't know what Brian's feelings are about it, but it's dickless all the same.
Stop allowing people to hide under the veil of anonymity and you'll see the pointless neg-bombing come to an end.

I think Brian has been working on a way to control points. I'm thinking it might be something along the lines of losing a point or two if you plus or neg someone. If he is making some changes, they will be out by the season.
Athens, GA is a fantastic college town, one which rivals Ann Arbor. I personally prefer AA, but the local music scene in Athens is ridiculous, the campus is beautiful, and Sanford Stadium is on campus and an incredible place to watch a football game. And while not quite up to UM's level, UGA is an excellent school in its own right. USNWR ranks them #58, ahead of Purdue, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, and Michigan State. They've also got excellent sports programs, with several non-revenue sports perennially highly ranked (although, again, not quite up to UM's level overall).
For my privacy, my new username is "non-Oriental non-Andrew"
and good luck DA. It could have been special.

good luck to you DeAnthony. I hope you choose either Cal or Tennessee.
I'm gonna take two weeks off, and then quit.

Dave Brandon: Detailed and thorough investigation proves that Freep report was intentionally misleading.
It's a shame, but with the real lack of production our outside receivers have shown.. not surprised at all. Good luck to the kid, hopefully he is a good college player down the line.
Yeah . . . until our team proves it can get the ball to the outside receivers, I don't think true big-time receivers are going to give us a great shot.
Wish the best of luck to the kid, he's going to be a good one. Now we just have to move on to Sammy Watkins and A.J. Jordan.
Once the QB production reaches high output this type of recruit perception will disappear. We all know how much is riding on this season. I think that many of the 4-5* RBs and receivers are going to be watching intently.
he doesn't feel that offense will get him to the next level.
Fair enough, but then what is Iowa doing on that list? He wants to join the ranks of all the great Iowa wideouts throughout history like, um, that one guy, and, uh... that... one... other guy?
It's definitely Tim Dwight. Every kid I've ever met from Saginaw/Flint wanted to grow up to be Tim Dwight.
Anywhere but MSU please. If he goes to MSU, the Sparties will never shut up about how they got the 2 best players in the state.
