Big Ten Recruiting Class Rankings 8-29-10

By Tim — August 29th, 2010 at 5:31 PM — 16 comments

Action since last rankings:

8-22-10 Iowa gains commitment from Melvin Gordon.
8-24-10 Illinois gains commitment from Hayden Daniels.
8-25-10 Michigan State gains commitment from Donavon Clark.

Slow week in the Big Ten, as I predicted. Hopefully things will pick up with official visits starting next weekend.

Big Ten+ Recruiting Class Rankings
Rank School # Commits Rivals Avg Scout Avg ESPN Avg
1 Ohio State 17 5.76 3.82 79.18
2 Notre Dame 16 5.69 3.44 79.00
3 Nebraska 13 5.65 3.23 75.84
5 Michigan State 14 5.63 3.21 76.57
4 Michigan 10 5.70 3.30 78.10
6 Indiana 21 5.53 2.76 75.48
7 Iowa 14 5.61 3.00 76.43
8 Northwestern 13 5.55 2.77 77.23

12 Illinois 14 5.36 2.36 70.93
13 Purdue 6 5.45 2.67 71.17

Rivals rankings are on the "RR" scale, which is on a scale from about 5 to about 6.1. Unrated prospects are given a 5.1 rating, on par with the worst of any Big Ten commit last year. Scout is on the 5-star system (unranked players earn star), and ESPN uses grades out of 100 (unranked is 40 or 45).

Bumped to the front page due to a new Michigan commit.

Action since last rankings:

8-9-10 Iowa gains commitment from Jordan Walsh.
8-10-10 Wisconsin gains commitment from Mike Caputo.
8-11-10 Michigan gains commitment from Tony Posada.

Slow week in the Big Ten, as I predicted. The sites should be coming out with updated rankings soon, so keep an eye out for that.

[press release]

Fan Day Slated for Sunday, August 22, at Michigan Stadium

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan football program will hold its annual Fan Day on Sunday, Aug. 22, at Michigan Stadium. The autograph session and opportunity to meet the 2010 Wolverine team will run from 1-3 p.m. EDT.

The event, which is an opportunity to see the newly renovated Big House prior to the opener against Connecticut on Sept. 4, is free and open to the public. All gates at the Big House will open starting at 11 a.m. Parking will be available in the lots adjacent to Michigan Stadium and Pioneer High School. In order to expedite the autograph process and accommodate as many fans as possible, players and head coach Rich Rodriguez will autograph one item per person.

Rodriguez will sign autographs on the Mortenson Plaza located above the Junge Champions Center. Rodriguez’s line will be accessible from the concourse and will wind along the west side of Crisler Arena.

Michigan players will be signing autographs along the north and south concourses at the concession stands. The offensive players will be located along the north side of the Big House between sections 29 and 38, with the defensive players residing on the south side between sections 8 and 18.

Check MGoBlue.com for player autograph locations which will be determined at a later date.
