and... i like them? I think I like them.
throw the damn ball !!!!!
I think the reason for Threet's inaccuracy at some points in the game, is him trying to put TOUCH on the ball, instead of just whipping it in there. I have noticed that he is not really left, or right, as much as he is OVER throwing his targets.
If he tries to put touch on the ball it is sailing on him. If he would just rare back and throw the thing, I beleive his accuracy would be dead on. These late drives where this offense actually looks like something. Threet is humming it in to his receivers. The drives that we struggle on, he throws several balls high, and not with a lot of velocity. Hence the TOUCH comment. I'm sure sometimes the kid is just trying too hard and that causes it to sail, but I just don't see him firing the ball in there like he does on a lot of his good passes.
Don't get me wrong, Threet has nice touch on his deep ball, which might speak to him trying to throw with touch on the curles or slants. he has pretty good arm strength, and needs to trust it. This weekend is the perfect opportubity for Threet to move up in his ability. Take this Defense and pick them apart with SHARP, CRISP bullets.
Come on "Bubba" gives us all what we see in you. A talented QB with a good arm. Just throw the damn thing. If he does, this offense can really bloom the rest of the year.
Good Luck Saturday Gentlemen !!!!!! GOOOO BLUE!!!!!!!!!!
It's what his family has called him his whole life. Just changin it up a bit. Going with a nickname.
It's not simple as you make it out to be. You can't just throw bullet even if it's a short pass. You need to take some off and give WR a chance to catch the ball. Mallett does the same thing and we see ball go through WR's hands. The underlying issue with Threet's throwing problem is his mechanics. His mechanics needs work and he has a tendency to open up his shoulders too soon which is why he's overthrowing targets.
I agree with your take on his throws. My seats are in the endzone and I can watch Threet's throwing motion. Too often he's trying to aim the ball rather than just firing it in there.
I assume this is just his inexperience and confidence. I HOPE it has nothing to do with the design of the offense where he's working on so many touch passes (screens, bubble screens, etc.) that his mechanics are screwed up.
I wish we still had Loeffler around to work with these young QB's were going to see the next four years.
I really thought this thread was going to be 'Threet just needs to... stop eating Panda Bowls from the Union and start drinking his chocolate milk'.
What a disappointment.
He doesn't stand straight and tall, he drops his elbow on every throw and his follow through sometimes consists of whipping his back leg forward like he was on a pitching mound trying to throw a change up. If he could just fix those three issues he would be serviceable enough to lead us to victory in at least one of our losses. He also needs to stop dropping the damn ball when he goes to throw!!!
It's not about touch. It's about mechanics. Even when he tries to wing the ball, it has a tendency to sail. He tends to drop his elbow, which causes general inaccuracy. It seems that most of his sailed balls occur when he throws to his left. That tells me he's not a) keeping his arm in the proper slot and b) using the proper footwork to turn his body toward the blindside receiver.
He never stands tall in the pocket and delivers with an overhead motion, instead hunching over like he was working on his abs with every throw or whipping the ball with a motion that brings his arm down diagonally almost to the point of being side armed. He drops his elbow and has a tendency to whip his back leg forward on his follow through as if he were on a pitching mound. Hopefully they will figure this out and fix these problems.
It would also help tremendously if he would hold on to the damn ball when he brings his arm back to throw.
Other than that he's great!!!
