Yes, the defense, yes the offense, blah blah blah. What was probably the most interesting (non-obvious) story line of the entire game is how much it was controlled by a guy who, at 5' 9", 178 lb., was probably the smallest on the field. ( http://utahutes.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/sakoda_louie00.html )

If you had told me before the game that their punter/kicker was the best player on the team, I would have taken that, and the line, and been pretty confident. Instead he's the Chevy PotG (FWIW).

Maybe it was the beer, but I don't think I've ever thought from the beginning to the end of a game, "Man, that kicker is killing us! If he were even mediocre we'd have this locked up."

A bad defense can make an efficient, experienced, functional offense look amazing, but the kicker is only one guy, and can determine much of his own fate. And this one only takes up one scholarship.

BJ is not McNabb or Young. I doubt he'll have success on Sundays. We didn't face some magically good team. They're more than competent and this game becomes a resumé builder for them when they get past BYU and argue for BCS inclusion. I don't think we take solace in losing to a "BCS-caliber" team.
Positions won't have settled out for another couple weeks, if that, but it appears at first glance that if Sheridan's advantage is supposed to be his mobility, then it's not all that much of an advantage. That, or actually playing in a game still scares him stiff. It would seem a shame to think that many games from here on out will be decided on whether Threet can actually throw the ball, or more optimistically, whether he can improve as a passer, given how much we'll have to rely on going over the D line, instead of through or around it. It looked as though the line had, at times, little trouble pushing the MWC D-line. Pushing, as opposed to blocking which is useful and produces holes capable of springing small quick people through them for, oh two, three yards ( http://www.mgoblue.com/football/article.aspx?id=144392 ) - I'm not asking for much.

Oh well. Onward, and upward.

Agree with the BJ comment----Utah is a solid team, but they aren't great. Really, they didn't impress me that much at all yesterday----they tried to give us the game. The rest of the year really depends on Threet's development as a passer bc if he can't pass, then opposing defenses can just load up with 10 in the box. We could have OSU's mammoth o-line and still not be able to run against 10. Thought Tim Jamison played a good game yesterday. Our linebackers are pretty brutal tho---Obi Ezeh is good but Panter and Evans were getting beat throughout the 1st half. One last thing----Zoltan Mesko is a douchebag. He comes out early, joking around w/ the students, Space Emporer (LOL!!) etc. etc. But the act is really getting old. Kick the damn ball. He's overrated imo.

" well, not that it matters much, but there was this one guy named mike nugent. remember him? every time osu crossed mid-field, it was a guaranteed 3 points. kickers have killed us in the past before.
