Kyle Kalis would be a huge pickup for us.Not to mention the snub to o-lie-o state.
OL Kyle Kalis Visiting Michigan This Weekend
Ohio State OL commit Kyle Kalis has been caught in the mix with the Ohio State allegations. He said that he was set to decommit from the Buckeyes until interim head coach Luke Fickell talked him out of it. Kalis then went on to say that he does have interest in Michigan and a few other schools. He told me tonight that he and his father will be visiting Ann Arbor this weekend. Here's a look at his film and what he had to say.
TOM: Is there any chance that you head up to Michigan this week for their camp?
KYLE: Yeah me and my dad are going up there this weekend to meet everyone for a visit. We're driving up Friday night then staying all day Saturday.
TOM: What prompted this visit? I know that you've been saying you are interested in Michigan, but why visit now?
KYLE: It's pretty much for the past few months I've become really good friends with Tom Strobel and he said I would love it up there, he fell in love with it. Tom was up there last weekend and he was talking about me with the coaches, they were joking around saying we could be roommates. I think Chris [Wormley] will be up there too [TomVH ed: I confirmed with Wormley that he is visiting this weekend]. I'm closer with Tom, but I am friends with Chris.
TOM: Is that important for you to have people that you already know there, too?
KYLE: Yeah, a big part of me liking Michigan is being able to come in with guys like Tom, maybe Chris [Wormley], being able to know that I'll practice with guys that are going to make me better.
TOM: I'm assuming your dad is an Ohio State fan too, what has he said about all this?
KYLE: He's actually not an Ohio State fan, he's indifferent. With him he's already been through this so he tells me to go with my heart. He's told me to get up there and talk with Coach Hoke, get up there and meet them in person.
TOM: What are you looking to get out of this visit
KYLE: The main thing is just getting a chance to sit down with Coach Hoke and a big thing is also to meet with the strength coach. I want to sit down with him and see his tactics. I also want to sit down with Coach Funk and maybe meet a few of the players.
TOM: Is this your first time up there?
KYLE: Yes, this will be the first time. Tom [Strobel] said when you get up there it's just a different place.
TOM: What's next after this? Are you taking any more visits?
KYLE: This summer I might get out to Auburn, Alabama, Iowa, or Miami. I probably won't get out to all of them, I want to enjoy my summer so we'll see.
We've never enjoyed this level of news on a week to week basis in the off-season that I can remember. It is kinda funny that we have "fans" micro-managining our recruiting. Wasn't it just weeks ago that there was a "fear" that we had too many LB'ers ... and now some have drawn the line at how many OL we should take. Relax ... its all good. This is the coach's job and to this point I cannot possibly see anyone having an argument with the success Hoke and staff are having !!!
Go Blue !
I remember in April when folks were freaking out about not having a commit yet. All this great news makes that seem foolish. I am sure the staff has a pretty good handle on things. Just sit back and enjoy this most wonderful and eventful summer.
I'd find a link to one of those "why haven't we gotten a commitment yet" threads.......too slow...too fast....complain complain complain....that's what she said....
A lot of sensitivity with this so I won't say much on the situation, just trust me that I know what's going on.
had to give you an insightful +1 ... but then starting laughing because insightful should be your ONLY moderation option !!!
Go Blue !
The guys on Bucknuts.com are freaking out.
I never look at bucknuts.com, but I did today in response to your post. They actually have a lead story with a picture of Kalis and a big headline about a possible major defection to Michigan -- because a kid decided to visit Ann Arbor. I mean, he is only visiting! I realize that this could be big, and I hope it will turn out big for Michigan, but this response seems awfully thin-skinned and defensive.
If I were an OSU fan, I would be embarrassed by that reaction.
Indeed. A gross overreaction especially since he's already been a solid commit thus far for them. Although, it's been fun visiting the site for the last couple of weeks during the implosion. I was sad to see the BMV didn't uncover any wrongdoings with the cars... too bad.
Wave, if you were an OSU fan there would be a good chance you'd be drunk right now, and yes I know it's 11:45 on a Tuesday morning.
Yea, I'm sure Hoke is doing some big time negative recruiting.
Yep, that's exactly what he's doing. It's not like he's providing these players with a reasonable back up plan in case OSU is going to be under sanction including bowl bans. It's not like he's offering them a chance to feature in bowl games or anything. It's definitely the negative recruiting that's changing these kids' minds.
Not even getting to the all the things that Michigan can offer these kids...
need to negative recruit them? I mean, they're pretty much doing that to themselves already anyways.
Todd Kails played for the Vikes for several years - was a very solid guard on a great o-line. If I recall correctly, he and Randall McDaniel were both drafted from ASU by the Vikes in the same year. Hard not to be overshadowed by the perenniel pro-bowler, but he was a solid player. I think Todd Kalis played for John Cooper at Arizona State, but I dont think there is any family allegience to OSU there.
DetNews article about the visit cited TomVH.
MOAR delusional TSIO fan posts. One person thinks that Dodson is gonna de-commit from Wiscy once OSU convinces him to come back and is" realistically" a lock for their class. Also, one fan says "scary stuff." HOKEMANIA baby!!!
Plenty of pancakes.
I like the - joked around that they could be roomates part. Sure I'm joking unless you are serious in which case I'm like, not joking.
It's great this kid is going to visit UM. But I just watched his video and he holds on every play. After all, how do you throw a defensive lineman to the ground without wrapping your arms around him? What happened to the holding penalty? It seems the definition of holding has changed. How can you possibly shake a block when the OL has both hands grabbing your jersey?
"How can you convey that you are shocked? This young man was very upfront that he was disappointed. He has every right to pursue his best interests.
So many of you act like Tressel's lies and his total disregard of knowingly playing ineligible athletes would have no consequence.
When your head coach lies to the NCAA and commits major violations there are consequences. Bowl bans, loss of scholarships of course will be looming for months. Turmoil within the program costs you several years of recruiting.
Major violations by our head coach has consequences. Now you are experiencing the black abyss that Tressel has put this program.
Quit your whining and acting like you are shocked. You blind Tressels' I laugh at you.
Tressel's dishonesty demands punishment. Embrace it. It is here."
Anyone... anyone??? :)
YYYYYYYEEEEESSSSSS!!!!! ugh that is the only thing I can come up with at this point. Thank you Terrell Proyr and company!
Sounds like a level headed young man. Hope he is impressed like his friend. This is what happens when you shoot yourself in the foot Coach Tressell. Recruits don't know if they will ever be able to be in a bowl game for part of their careers.
Anyone know any more about Orlosky? I found this quote from a TomVH update in February...
I might go up there with either Sam [Grant] or [Greg] Kuhar sometime. I think they like Michigan, and I know that [Tyler] Orlosky is definitely the most interested. Me and Orlosky are very close and we've always talked about playing together at the next level somewhere, so time will tell. I know Orlosky is a Michigan fan and excited to get up there to see what they're all about. I think I'll definitely give [Michigan] a chance to recruit me and I'll see where my teammates go.
In there it sounds like Orlosky would be a great addition and a huge partt in landing Kalis (along with Strobel and Wormley), but I haven't heard his name much lately except for 6 weeks ago when it was rumored the coaches had backed off Orlosky. Anyone have any updates or insight there? Is it a dead deal with him?
