OL Kyle Kalis Visiting Michigan This Weekend

Submitted by TomVH on

Ohio State OL commit Kyle Kalis has been caught in the mix with the Ohio State allegations. He said that he was set to decommit from the Buckeyes until interim head coach Luke Fickell talked him out of it. Kalis then went on to say that he does have interest in Michigan and a few other schools. He told me tonight that he and his father will be visiting Ann Arbor this weekend. Here's a look at his film and what he had to say.

TOM: Is there any chance that you head up to Michigan this week for their camp?

KYLE: Yeah me and my dad are going up there this weekend to meet everyone for a visit. We're driving up Friday night then staying all day Saturday.

TOM: What prompted this visit? I know that you've been saying you are interested in Michigan, but why visit now?

KYLE: It's pretty much for the past few months I've become really good friends with Tom Strobel and he said I would love it up there, he fell in love with it. Tom was up there last weekend and he was talking about me with the coaches, they were joking around saying we could be roommates. I think Chris [Wormley] will be up there too [TomVH ed: I confirmed with Wormley that he is visiting this weekend]. I'm closer with Tom, but I am friends with Chris.

TOM: Is that important for you to have people that you already know there, too?

KYLE: Yeah, a big part of me liking Michigan is being able to come in with guys like Tom, maybe Chris [Wormley], being able to know that I'll practice with guys that are going to make me better.

TOM: I'm assuming your dad is an Ohio State fan too, what has he said about all this?

KYLE: He's actually not an Ohio State fan, he's indifferent. With him he's already been through this so he tells me to go with my heart. He's told me to get up there and talk with Coach Hoke, get up there and meet them in person.

TOM: What are you looking to get out of this visit

KYLE: The main thing is just getting a chance to sit down with Coach Hoke and a big thing is also to meet with the strength coach. I want to sit down with him and see his tactics. I also want to sit down with Coach Funk and maybe meet a few of the players.

TOM: Is this your first time up there?

KYLE: Yes, this will be the first time. Tom [Strobel] said when you get up there it's just a different place.

TOM: What's next after this? Are you taking any more visits?

KYLE: This summer I might get out to Auburn, Alabama, Iowa, or Miami. I probably won't get out to all of them, I want to enjoy my summer so we'll see.

Remember when beaver dropped us and we picked up denard. Well that was by design, it's part of the game, and that seemed to work out pretty good. I'd have no problem if a 3 star decides to decommit in favor of us signing a top 50 kid, those are the kids we need to get back on top.

I know I'll never happen but I wish we could sign  about 40 and get everybody we wanted. It's so hard to choose. Of course, if we really lowered standards and went to the SEC, then you never know. . .

are doing an impressive job.  I can't belive how much recruiting has improved since Hokemania started.  This is how Michigan football is supposed to recruit and I am looking forward to the start of fall camp and this season.  Keep up the great work Coach!!!  GO BLUE!!!

Someone just commented to Tom on twitter that they would be shocked if Michigan was able to pull Kalis away from OSU.  Tom replied "I wouldn't be"  Sounds like Kalis is listening to what Stroebel and maybe Wormley have to say about Michigan.  Could you imagine if the O'Brien rumors are true tomorrow and maybe  getting Kalis and Wormley too?

I'm guessing we will have to turn away some blue chip talent.

I mean - what if 5 of the remaining OL want to commit to us?? Someone will have to be turned away. And it is looking that way.

my heart. I can't handle this. this is too much. it's going to explode from overjoyment (don't beleive that's a word). I REALLY hope we get this kid.. I wanted him so bad last year when he commited to OSU (even tho we really had no shot). But now it's looking like a good possibility.. SHOW HIM A GREAT TIME THIS WEEKEND IN ANN ARBOR!! And I hope this is just the start of recruits/players leaving Columbus! COME NORTH! YOU WILL BE CHAMPIONS! THE RIGHT WAY!

it actually makes a lot of sense that premiere OL talent is interested in UM.  I mean, usually your OL doesn't change unless there's injury and a need for backups to come in, and with redshirting, generally classes are pretty deep.  UM is just in a fantastic position where we need to take a LOT of OL guys this year to build up that depth, and these top recruits are thinking there's a chance to crack the 2-deep right after a redshirt year (which on most of the elite teams would probably not be true).  I love it, and I'm hoping we get all of these top guys we're chasing (and that we're willing to wait for them).  Especially Kalis.  I will seriously go buy an extra-large bucket of popcorn just to watch the meltdowns.

Or am I getting really nervous about our
<br>Ohio recruits getting their knees and ankles destroyed by leg whips and hi/lo blocks by scrubby no ones who will walk on at osu?

I agree with that list, although I might have Bars ahead of Keenan.  I like how you placed Garnett second, it seems like people on here don't talk about him as much as players like Diamond and Banner, but honestly I think he should be one of the priorities.  In order for our downhill running game to get going, we need some road pavers with mean streaks, and Garnett is the definition of that.

Bars isn't a bad prospect.  I just think Keenan is more athletic.  There are a lot of good guys on the list.

Garnett is both athletic and powerful.  I don't think people talk about him much because he's from WA and it might be a stretch to get him here.  But I don't think anyone here would object to taking him if we can get him.

To be honest, the drop-off from "elite" to "good" might be between #4 and #5.  The guys from #1 to #4 are surefire good college players, in my opinion, but I think from Diamond on down, it gets a little murkier.

Diamond is good.  But I honestly think Michigan fans are overrating him because he showed early interest in us, just like people did with Ricardo Miller, Jeremy Jackson, and Marvin Robinson.

I'd probably put Thurston right in there with Diamond, as far as pure talent goes.  I would probably want Diamond slightly more because he has a teammates here (Chris Bryant) and it would give us another connection to Simeon and Chicago, which is good for the future of Michigan football.  It's easier to build a pipeline to Chicago than Colorado.
