Wow. That is all I have to say. These are amazing, as always. I am in love with all three.
Naughty or Nice - Christmas 2010 Wallpaper
If you were Santa Claus would the Michigan football program be on your Naughty list or your Nice list this year? How about Coach Rich Rodriguez? Do you approve of the behavior of Athletic Director Dave Brandon? Whatever your position, I have a Christmas gift for you. I've created two holiday-themed wallpapers so that you can choose the one that best represents your spirit this football season. If you had Santa's freakish ability to squeeze down chimneys (and his immunity from breaking and entering charges) would you deliver a lump of coal or a tasty gingerbread treat?
Feel free to regift.
The images below are previews only. You can get the widescreen, 4:3, iPad and mobile wallpapers at The Art. The Art. The Art!.
How it was made
The lump of coal for the Naughty image came together rather painlessly but as you can see from the video I really struggled with the Nice image. If you watch closely you'll see several discarded concepts including a gift box with a bow (looked too tacky) and a candy cane (colors were too Ohio State-ish) so I landed on the gingerbread house (which is arguably more tacky than the gift, but you get what you get and you don't get upset). I sped up the footage to condense several life-wastingly long design sessions into a little under 3 minutes of video. If you're looking for an alcohol-free way to numb your emotional distress this holiday season this video is for you.
Bonus Wallpaper (or that one gift I hid behind the tree only to be unveiled after all the other gifts were opened)
In late October I stumbled across a fantastic high resolution Tron Legacy publicity image showing off the new light cycles. The combination of colors (blue and gold) and the futuristic protective gear made me think of Michigan's modern, high speed offense and Denard Robinson at the controls. After his record setting season, Denard Robinson has laid the foundation for a Michigan football legacy sure to last. Man, this is super nerdy but I like it.
All of the 2010 Wallpapers
You sir, are awesome.
have out done yourself. 3 wallpapers in 1 week? Wow. Much appreciated!
Outstanding work! I just have one request: Could you do a third image that fits between "naughty" and "nice" and accounts for those borderline gifts? I'm thinking a "jelly-of-the-month club" block-M. You know, 'cause its the gift that keeps givin' all year long . . .
Hey! If any of you are looking for any last-minute gift ideas for me, I have one. I'd like Frank Shirley, my boss, right here tonight. I want him brought from his happy holiday slumber over there on Melody Lane with all the other rich people and I want him brought right here, with a big ribbon on his head, and I want to look him straight in the eye and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit he is! Hallelujah! Holy shit! Where's the Tylenol?
There you go, Merry Christmas!
Can't see the line, can you, Russ?
No, Aunt Bethany, those are Christmas lights.
Don't throw me down Clark.
I'll try not to Aunt Bethany.
Is this the Airport, Clark?
Well, I had to have it replaced because every time Katherine revved up the microwave, I'd piss my pants and forget who I was for a half hour.
Hahaha ok ok you win. Ah I love that movie. Greatest movie of all time, IMO.
It is my favorite Christmas movie. No matter how many times you see it, it remains funny. I plan on watching it soon.
"If I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn't be more surprised than I am now."
As in yule, yule log. Not a log. I don't have a log. Not in the sense that you think I said.
It couldn't be any hooter - hotter - in here than it already is!
When I saw "Naughty and Nice", I was definitely thinking along the same lines. Thank you sir for easing my disappointment.
Next year I'll have to try a block M jello mold with cat food in it.
How about a fruitcake block M? You could regift it to the board every year.
You rock. I love it.
Edit: Also, sorry for hijacking the thread with "Christmas Vacation" quotes. It was bound to happen in one of these threads.
We're on the threshold of Hell!
And when Santa squeezes his fat, white ass down that chimney tonight, he's going to find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse.
Not sure what is awesomer, that my diary was hijacked by "Christmas Vacation" quotes or that your avatar is the Cobra Kai logo. I'm calling it a tie. I love both movies and am happy that my diary was where the inevitable Vacation quote throwdown took place. Tonight my wife asked if I had received any good feedback on today's wallpapers and I told her that over half the comments were movie quotes. I said, "You know that thing that my friends and I do where we start endless movie quote conversations that drive you and the other wives crazy? Picture that on mgoblog." She said, "Oh" and rolled her eyes knowingly.
Glad you approved. BTW, love your work.
And yes, the M jello mold with cat food would be a superb idea.
love the drob legacy.
outstanding work as always.
I really enjoy watching the videos and seeing you change your mind on ideas...
I had no idea what I was watching, but it was pretty cool to see the process.
Decisions decisions...Background Choice overload!
Thanks for these, man. Although it was expertly done, the "cowbelle" was starting to creep me out a little. :)
Just a little???
OK, so it's not just me, then.
No, definitely not just you. I was a little creeped out by it myself.
Ha! That one lasted as my background for about an hour. The class I was trying felt uncomfortable with it on the projector so I switched it back to the Thanksgiving background...
Thank you again and again for providing some quality wallpapers! I make sure to share these with my non-connected Michigan fans whenever they are available. As a wanna-be photoshopper, I am blown away each time you provide the screencapture and see how you use the program. Keep up the good work!
Great stuff. Not sure which one I'll put on the background, but some nice choices.
Awesome, as always. Look forward to your wallpapers every week!
MonUmental is deserving of a Profiles in Heroism post soon.
Wow, I'm really loving the gingerbread M! Thanks for all your work on these!
So I can plus you again. Awesome.
Dear Athletic Department,
Please cut this guy a fat check and feature his backgrounds on the official website next season.
