Game Day Weather

Well, I can halfway fill your requests for a warmer, calmer Saturday! We'll keep milder temps but are going to have some wind with them. It's going to be a pretty cloudy day, and expect an overcast afternoon/evening and showers coming around later after the game (the main rain event not starting until about 1am).

Tailgating

Thanks to clouds moving in overnight Friday, they act like a blanket keeping us a bit warmer for the early morning tailgaters! If you're out at 6am, don't expect to see too many stars with the sky still under a good amount of cloud cover. It'll be 47 degrees, but grab the extra jacket as the wind makes it feel like 42. Southerly winds are already at 10mph (leaves blow about, you feel the wind in your hair/on your skin). They'll pick up to 15mph by 9am (small twigs move) with the temp rising to 50 degrees.

Kickoff

High noon brings the temperature up to 54 degrees, and the wind up as well. Out of the SSW, you'll feel that steady 17mph breeze (small trees sway), and the gusts up to 25mph as well (you'll hear the wind "whistling"). Mostly cloudy skies for the kickoff.

Halftime

Mostly cloudy skies for halftime, but you'll notice the cloud cover continually increasing as the game goes on. The temp goes up a couple degrees to 56, and the wind stays just as high as at kickoff.

Post-Game

We'll hit the high for the day of 58 around the end of the game with overcast skies. Chances for a light shower come around late afternoon, and expect the main rain event to begin while you're out celebrating the win- around 1am- so you'll end up running through some rain leaving when the bar closes! The wind gusts die down a bit to 20mph at dinner-time, and they disappear by midnight, with the steady breeze calming down to 15mph, staying out of the south. Temperatures drop to 53 by 8pm, then don't go below 50 degrees until 8am Sunday when the cold front moves through.

You're going to think I just copy & paste the forecast each week- we've got another breezy Saturday on tap! Dress in layers for a chilly morning and milder conditions later. Warm air streams in behind a warm front giving us above normal high temps, around 50 degrees, and lows only in the 40s if you're out late celebrating the win! Not a lot of moisture coming in right now with this southerly wind, so we'll be dry for the game. Clouds increase throughout the day but we won't see the showers from the approaching cold front until later afternoon/evening.

Tailgating

Mostly sunny skies and there's a chill in the air- put the mittens on to hold that cold beer! Sitting in the mid and upper 30s until 10am, but thanks to the wind it will feel like the upper 20s and low 30s until then. Winds are out of the southwest between 10-15mph (leaves blowing about), with gusts really starting to pick up around 9am, reaching up to 22mph (small branches move).

Kickoff

Warming up to 45 degrees (wind chill 40 degrees) with partly sunny skies to start this great game! That SW wind is at a steady 17-18mph (small trees sway), with gusts possible up to 26mph (you can hear the wind "whistling", empty plastic garbage cans tip over).

Halftime

We'll hit the high of the day at halftime, a balmy 49 degrees. Although the actual temperature is near 50, keep in mind the wind chill will keep it feeling like 44 degrees. The wind's still 17-18mph and gusts are still possible up to 24mph. Mostly cloudy skies for the time being, but you'll notice the cloud cover continually increasing.

Post-Game

A SW wind at 15mph and cloudy skies by the end of the game. It turns into a pretty cloudy afternoon/evening with a chance of showers coming in around dinner-time and lingering into Sunday. The wind stays up around 17mph with gusts in the low 20s - it'll calm down Sunday afternoon. With warm air streaming in and the clouds acting like a blanket, temps remain high also, staying at 48 degrees through last call, although wind chills will have you feeling a cool 40 degrees.

Let's Go Blue!

A warm front comes through Illinois, bringing behind it a tight pressure gradient- the closer the lines, the higher the winds. So it's another football Saturday with southerly winds coming through at a good clip, gusts around 30mph are quite possible during the game. Clouds will increase as well throughout the entire day. It's a day to dress in layers, as it will be a chilly start to the day, and even though we'll warm up to the 50s and stay mild into the evening hours, it'll still be breezy.

If you're traveling to Champaign...

Tailgating

For you super early-bird tailgaters, Champaign won't hit 40 degrees until 8am, and with a SW wind at 10-15mph, wind chill will make it feel like 30. By 10am, wind chill still hanging on, and although it will be 48, it'll still feel like it's in the low 40s. That wind has picked up a bit also, still out of the southwest, but up to 17-22mph (small trees sway). Temps will hit 55 by 1pm, SW winds up to a steady 22mph, and gusts possible up to 25mph (empty plastic garbage cans tip over, you can hear the wind "whistling"). Cloud cover will increase during the day, but tailgating should be mostly sunny.

Kickoff

Remember it's a 2:30 CT start! Reaching the high of 59 degrees with mostly sunny skies for kickoff. And that wind's not backing down... SSW winds at 20mph, with gusts up to 32mph (it's difficult to use an umbrella, you need to use effort to walk against the wind).

Halftime

Dropping just a degree or two for halftime, still a warm 58 degrees. Partly sunny skies by now, as more and more clouds build their way in. SSW winds remain high also at 20mph, and expect gusts up around 30mph.

Post-Game

Experiencing not nearly the same cool down as Friday night, Champaign will stay mild. Even by last call, temps will only be in the low 50s. The clouds continue to build for a mostly cloudy evening and staying that way overnight. Those SSW winds stay at 20mph, with gusts still possible up to 30mph, increasing into Sunday. If you're driving home on Sunday, expect mostly cloudy conditions with a chance of rain, highs in the low 60s, and windy conditions-be careful driving as gusts could be up to 40mph!

If you're staying home...
A partly cloudy morning with SW winds at 10mph gives way to more sun during the day, and the winds picking up a bit. We'll see upper 40s by mid-morning, but don't forget that darn wind chill-making it feel like the low 40s. Winds will rise to 15mph, and some gusts will be up to 20mph. Ann Arbor will reach 54 degrees by kickoff time, with gusts now possible up to 22mph, remaining out of the SW. We'll get a mini-break from the wind for dinner-time, then it'll pick back up and increase overnight, along with the cloud cover. If you're headed out, by closing time we'll be at 48 degrees, SSW winds between 15-20mph (wind chill 40) with partly cloudy skies.

Go Blue and have safe travels, or have fun watching here at home!

High pressure keeps us with a good amount of sunshine! A storm system moving across the high plains pulls in warm air giving comfy temps but makes for a breezy football Saturday.

If you're traveling to Iowa City...

Tailgating

Scrape the frost off the car and pour some hot coffee if you're headed out early! We'll be sitting in the 30s until 8am, winds out of the southeast at 10mph- and climbing. 45 degrees by 10am, but it'll still feel about 5 degrees cooler with the wind chill. By 10am, winds will have gone up to a steady 15mph with gusts up to 20mph (loose paper blows about, small twigs scatter across the ground).

Kickoff

Remember it's an 11 o-clock CT start! Partly sunny skies and 49 degrees for the start of the game. Winds will have picked up to 15mph, gusts up to 20mph (small trees sway), still out of the southeast.

Halftime

Warming up just a bit with more clouds building in- but no rain! Mostly cloudy and 52 by halftime, and those SE winds are still climbing. 17mph winds, complete with gusts up to 25mph (empty plastic garbage cans tip over, you can hear the wind "whistling").

Post-Game

Hitting 54 degrees around game's end with mostly sunny skies. SSE winds continue with a steady 17-18mph flow, and gusts remain up to 25mph (you need to use effort to walk against the wind). Winds will stay up through the night into early afternoon Sunday. Temperatures stay mild with all that warm air streaming in- staying in the 50s throughout the entire night, just touching in the upper 40s before Sunday's sunrise. Cloud cover decreases in the evening for partly cloudy skies, which will continue into tomorrow- dry, but windy, conditions whether you're leaving for home after the game or Sunday.

If you're staying home...
Not quite as warm (we'll see the warmer, windier weather Sunday) as Iowa, but still a fantastic day! Temperatures in the upper 20s until 9am (yep, it's November), then warming quickly to 42 degrees by noon. Ann Arbor will see a high of 51 degrees, with mostly sunny skies. Winds will be out of the southeast at about 10mph all day. By 9pm, mostly clear skies let us get back down into the 30s, so grab that coat as you're headed out for some late-night celebrating!

Go Blue and have safe travels, or fun watching here at home! And don't forget to turn your clocks back!

I'm sorry for the delay in posting, I'm kickin' myself right now for not getting that $10 flu shot!  Happy Homecoming! It's a fantastic fall football Saturday, and definitely starting to feel like we're close to November! Put on some warm clothes and grab that hat! I don't think we'll see rain beyond a light sprinkle until later (the main rain event arriving daytime Monday), but there's a small chance for a spotty shower and we'll still see some sun throughout the day.

Tailgating

Depending on how early you were up, with temps around freezing you were out scraping your car to get to the game! Might see some light, spotty showers,  but mostly just a light mist for the morning, and some sun also. Hitting near 40 degrees by 10am, with a calm south wind.

Kickoff

Looking at 45 degrees for the kickoff, feeling just a few degress colder with a wind chill. Winds still out of the south at about 3mph, with partly cloudy skies by noon. I think we'll still be dry for the kickoff.

Halftime

Clouds continue to build in a little more, but should still see some sun too! There's a slight chance of a shower, but I don't think it will be anything heavy, just a few sprinkles, and shouldn't last long. 47 degrees by halftime, and those southerly winds still calm-just a light breeze.

Post-Game

Should just make 50 degrees by 4pm, with all the clouds hanging around I don't think we'll get any warmer. There's still a chance of a spotty shower and a possible rumble or two of thunder throughout the later afternoon/early evening hours. Temps drop quickly into the low 40s by dinnertime, and will continue to drop into the later evening hours. If you're out celebrating late tonight, you'll feel temperatures down around the freezing point by last call. Winds staying out of the south around 3-5mph (but expect a blustery day tomorrow). Clouds do start to diminish, so even though it will be chilly, you won't have any rain to deal with and may see some stars!

Have a great time at the game, and celebrating a win afterwards! Hail!

A low pressure system to the NE means we'll receive the backside of the rain and the cooler air streaming in behind the cold front. Luckily we'll be dry for the day and the only thing to really worry about is the wind. We have gale force winds expected throughout the whole day... we're not talking a light breeze, we're talking up to 45mph winds! Dress warm for this match-up!

If you're traveling to East Lansing...

Tailgating

The rain will move out by 8am, and if you're headed out tailgating you'll be dry, but may want to put a few extra stakes in your tent to make sure your wind protection doesn't blow over! We'll be at 45 degrees, but it'll feel chillier with west winds at 20mph, gusts higher. Grab something warm to drink, put the chili in the crockpot, and bundle up!

Kickoff

Looking at 52 degrees and partly cloudy for the kickoff. That west wind is just beginning to reach it's peak- seeing a steady 25mph wind (this is when you can hear the wind howling, it's hard to use an umbrella) and gusts could be up to 40mph (big trees sway, you can feel your car veering.)

Halftime

Only going up a couple degrees by halftime, and seeing more sun but some clouds remain. Winds steady at 30mph with gusts over 40mph possible. Gale force winds mean you can see some branches down, construction barricades can blow over.

Post-Game

Reaching the high temperature as we approach the end of the game, 56 degrees. The clouds will continue to clear as we go through the remainder of the afternoon and evening hours, but the important thing is that the winds will begin to wind down. By 8pm, sitting at 50 degrees, west wind at 18mph, gusts up to 30mph. By midnight, they've calmed to 15mph, gusts in the low 20s, with temps in the upper 40s. If you're headed home Sunday morning, you'll see less wind (about 10mph-leaves move about) but the chance of a shower returns.

If you're staying home...
Very similar weather, but we'll be a bit warmer. Looking to hit the upper 50s in Ann Arbor tomorrow, and a little less windy than E. Lansing- we'll have west winds between 20-28mph, with gusts in the upper 30s. 54 degrees at kickoff, 56 by halftime, and seeing mostly sunny skies for the afternoon. Cooling to the upper 40s by last call, wind at 15mph (no gusts), with clouds increasing late night as showers move in for Sunday morning. Bundle up on this windy Saturday to head downtown and celebrate victory!
