MGoShirt Alert - Day 6

“SE HABLA MGOBLOG?”

This is the sixth entry of the 2009 MGoShirt Alert, a design project that will enable MgoBlog readers to vote for upcoming designs in the brand spankin’ new MGoBlogStore.

I also considered going with this, suggested by who I regretfully admit I cannot remember.  If this is really what you want, tell me and we'll run that one too.

I asked for suggestions on Friday for what the MGoCommunity would like to see on a Tacopants shirt.  Ah yes, Tacopants, the possibly imaginary and certainly omnipresent eleven-foot tall former best friend of Jason Avant, whose job it was to pluck the ridiculously uncatchable ducks thrown from the fresh arm of Chad Henne.  And while Chad is gone, our boy Tacopants seems to have unlimited eligibility.  Figures.

I had quite a few ideas of my own, for Tacopants... Tacopants/Furrha for Student Body President, a pictographic rendition of Tacopants (the pic of the taco, the pic of the pants, as created by Zero), and even the Tacopants Has Left the Team, citing Family Values and Better Quarterback Play (also recently suggested).  There's quite a few ways to go with this, and several readers suggested ideas, but no one really rallied around any of them.  I finally decided to go with this eleventh-hour design, created in tandem by Brodie and Formerly Anonymous-- just because it seemed catchy-- I added the back design of the shirt to bring the idea back to MGoBlog.  It's kinda weird without, y'know, English-- my only concern would be that people might think Brian's blog is en espanol.

As for my own idea, I was watching a DVR of the Friday night BTN broadcast, and no matter how hard I looked I didn't see Tacopants anywhere out there with an Adidas practice jersey.  Got me to thinking... and long story short, I have a new Tacopants shirt that I'll be rolling out this week.  And that'll be the end of this Tacopants business.  Hell, we didnt' even get to Barwis yet.

So, time to vote!  What do you guys think?

Place your votes, and thanks for the suggestions Friday and over the weekend!  It's worth noting that I did create some designs based on reader suggestions.  See you tomorrow for another round of-- MGoShirt Alert!

No Tacopants Goooooood

"As for my own idea, I was watching a DVR of the Friday night BTN broadcast, and no matter how hard I looked I didn't see Tacopants anywhere out there..."

I didn't see Tacopants either, but I did see some brief flashes of Burritoshorts.

At least their cousin Enchirito Arms wasn't around.

I take it Burritoshorts is the 3'1" slot receiver that Nick Sheridan is always throwing to when he chucks the ball at the feet of Greg Mathews?

Actually, I believe that's

Actually, I believe that's Tacoskirt, Tacopant's 2'6" little sister.

She was recruited as a package deal with Ryan Mallett, but she didn't transfer with him.

Plus 1 for remembering

Plus 1 for remembering something from a 2007 UFR.

Not to question Brian's god-like qualities, but I like "burritoshorts" as the vertically challenged, antithetical counterpart to Tacopants better than "Tacoskirt."

Seems very 2006.

Nice and all -- but Tacopants has always seemed like a Henne thing whose time has come and gone.

agreed

I don't like rooting for failure (unless notre dame is playing), but I am glad to see this shirt is not doing well in the voting.

looking forward to tomorrow's shirt!

I'd say he's a one star, but with his height he has a lot of upward mobility in his senior year.

Quemar los tacos

I like it, but i'd rather do something different on the back than say "te quieres mgoblog?"

Additionally, not to be a grammar nazi, but I'm not sure the reflexive is necessary there. "Te quieres ir" for example requires reflexive, but because "ir" in the meaning "to leave" requires a reflexive, not querer. I think quererse implies "loving each other" (or oneself).

Quemar los tacos is awesome

"Quemar los tacos" is awesome though maybe too many jokes at once for many people to get it.

I still like Zero's taco and pants design.

The front is pretty good today, I'm not a big fan of the back, even with corrected Spanish. I definitely prefer "Tacopants for Heisman" though--the design is pretty awesome. I don't really like the plus/minus that seem to be on a lot of peoples' designs, but that's a pretty minor quibble.

Check Translation

I'm not typically a grammar nazi but check the translation on the back. The phrase on the back is a bit awkward in Spanish. Literal translation is 'Do you want yourself (some) MGOBLOG?' Also could be 'Do you love yourself (some)MGOBLOG?' Either way, the present reflexive tense mucks it up and makes the wearer look like a poser. Maybe that's part of the charm but at least go into ownership with eyes wide open.

That said. This shirt is just aiight for me but I realize that this is directly from the people so...whatever.

I much prefer a pictoral

I much prefer a pictoral representation. Something like "(picture of taco) + (picture of pants) = (picture of heisman trophy).

Maybe I just like good pictures, as the Slot Ninja shirt is still my favorite (and something I would probably buy).

My only other concern is wearing the mgoblog name so prominantly. It starts to feel more like a t-shirt that companies give away for free. I much prefer misopogon's UFER/UFR shirt, as the back just had the +1/-1 arrows, a blog signature of sorts without the name (think nike logo).

So, this shirt is a copycat from a taco bell commercial from like 10 years ago....I thought we were supposed to be cutting edge, the avant-guarde of the sporting blogoshpere? This shirt will go down in fire sauce!

Spanish speaker here

"Te quieres Mgoblog" translates to "do you want yourself, MvamosBlog?". FAIL. Although I would wear this for the irony of it all as well as for grammar nazi bait since I love their company.

I appreciate the simplicity,

I appreciate the simplicity, but I think the shirt could be improved with some alignment to the grid system. Right now it looks like it was pieced together as quickly as possible because there were entirely too many cooks in the kitchen.

No shirt you make will please everyone, so while I think user input is helpful, it is only helpful to a point. Also remember that not every viewer votes or responds via comment. I would focus on coming up with more conceptually strong, technically sound, creative shirts that can please a decent number of people.

I would buy this shirt.

The only thing that would be better would be a star wars theme. Lloyd, Yoda and Obi Wan(or Ezeh)ghosted in the background in their Dagobah robes(End of Return of the Jedi?) Caption, "May T-Force Be With You". Bonus points if you can work in Zoltan or the phraise, "Obi Ezeh has taught you well young padowan".

I'd buy the shirt if not for the poorly translated backside. I'm really unsure why there is so much hate for this shirt... I'm thinking this the ultimate proof that nothing Six does will satisfy everyone.

EDIT: Tacopants for Heisman is much cooler than this shirt, but I'm not a fan of the MGoBlog and up/down arrows.
