MGoShirt Alert, 2011 Edition

Submitted by Six Zero on

It's that time of year again, kids-- the boys are in camp, the hype is reaching meltdown status, and we're just a few weeks away from that most glorious time of the year known as football season.  We've also been given a great boost of Hoke hope this year, so it's certainly understandable that we're feeling a little optimistic that this year might be a little different.

Amen to that.

So I'm sure some of you are in need of some new gear, and what better than a new batch of MGoShirts for the whole family before the Western game in two weeks!  Featuring the finest quality apparel, MGoShirts are designed only for the most ravenous and dedicated community here at MGoBlog.  They also help a certain newlywed put bacon on the table, so remember that every shirt you buy is a contribution towards the site you love.

But enough of the sales pitch!  Onto the latest shirts for 2011:

MANBALL

FOUNDATION OF TOUGHNESS! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

You know what kind of play the new coach is all about, and so will everyone else when you sport this new tee.  Now available in Offense and Defense.  No, not really-- but you can wear this shirt and identify yourself as a true Hoke supporter.

HAHA TSIO

Ha HAAAAAAAAAAAAA!! Does this make you Millhouse, Columbus??

The most famous Schadenfreude of the cartoon world, now in convenient maize and blue and ridiculing something known as TSIO, whatever the heck that is.  And yes, if you look closely, he is indeed wearing his own 'WORST STATE EVER' MGoShirt.  My personal fave of the MGoShirts this year.

THE DAY THE CLOUDS PARTED

A monumental day in the history of Michigan Athletics

Remember that day?  It was a Tuesday, and most of us were still reacting--some revelling, some reviling-- to the hire of Brady Hoke, when out of the blue we learn that he's miraculously pulled away RAY LEWIS's own Defensive Coordinator.  Whether you consider yourself a conspiracy theorist or not, it's hard to argue with the meme around here that everything turned around the day Greg Mattison was hired.

UNVERIFIED VORACITY

You don't need to see my verification.... Move Along...

Brian Cook, in two succinct words.  I could wring that photographer's neck for not getting one of these on our fearless leader, but that's another story.   You wear your love of Michigan on your sleeve, and now you can do the same for your loyalty to the premiere Michigan sports online community.

HALOL

Gimme an H...

1. HALOL
A happy laugh out loud, either because of your extreme joy at a situation, a lot of fortunate turns of events leading to happiness. Can be used ironically.

Alex: I just pre-ordered black ops, HALOL.
Caitlin: HALOL, the funniest thing just happened at church!

CUE THE MUPPETS

Fielding Yost Actually Invented the Muppets. Srsly.

Not quite as new, but still a part of the 2011 line is the famous "CUE THE MUPPETS" shirt.  It's a well known fact that anytime the Muppets show up on MGoBlog, it usually means that something really good just happened on a UM field, court, or rink.

Dear Jesus, let us see many Muppets this fall.  And leave our DBs alone.  Amen.

Very exciting times to be a Michigan man-- don't get caught without the proper team gear, AND remember that September 2nd is once again National College Colors Day.

All shirts are available now in sizes S-2XL and in stock only at the MGoStore
Order yours today to ensure delivery by the opening game.  And on behalf of myself, the MGoStore, and Brian.... GO BLUE!!!!

Someone that knows Mr. Brady needs to purchase an MGoShirt and see if he'll wear it to at least one game.  I'm sure many an MGoMember will pitch in to purchase the shirt if the aforementioned acquaintance does not want to purchase it him/herself.  Someone needs to make this happen.  He will reach Greek demigod status!

Didn't his roommates wear shirts that said something about him?

Seriously, I've seen him on campus several times (I think I was introduced to him at Charley's once) and whenever I do all I can think about is how creepy it is that people keep posting pictures of him.

JME, but this meme needs to die.

My buddy was in a group with him for class, and he's apparently sick and tired of this thing already.  I wasn't even allowed to find out his real name because he doesn't want a future employer to google search him in every movie ever made.  It's time for this thing to end.

MGoBlog couldn't sell anything depicting actual student athletes. So the Mike Martin Hulk shirt that had a 68 and said "Martin Smash" on it was not legit.

However selling a shirt that just had a 16 on it, or Shoelace, or making your authentic #16 jerseys $200 is totally legit. As long as it doesn't say a player's name. The issue was more with the NCAA rules than the university's, but yeah they got a C&D and had to pull some shirts out of the store

Don't forget that the Univserity and its paper can sell you a picture of Denard stiff arming Taeo and that's totally cool.  Because we all know that the University is part of the NCAA which would never, ever exploit student-atheltes for profit.  Unlike guys selling t-shirts for 20 bucks a pop.  They are bad, very bad.  Really, the NCAA only did it to protect the childern.  Think of the childern.

Question: Will these shirts be printed with more durable ink than my Shoelace shirt from last year? I love it, but the yellow rubs off the blue shirt really easily.

Woah, thanks for the offer! At this point it's not really that big a deal, and for the price of the shirt I'm still happy with it. I was just curious if the printing methods had changed. The blue on yellow shirts are nicer because you don't need a real thick layer of paint to cover up a darker color underneath.

I will say that I didn't get one of the american apparel shirts, and I'd guess those have a bit higher quality.

Just a fluke. May have been one of the first shirts off the press and maybe there was a hiccup in the dryer temp, or just a subpar shirt from the vendor. We dont "increase" the quality of print for the AA shirts, but you are correct that the better the cotton on the shirt, the higher the quality/feel of print.

the "Because SanDiego Wolverine-- you know, the guy with the asian kid with the mullet for an avatar-- Said It's Okay" defense!!  I'll call the lawyers and set it up.

Actually, it was one of the shirts expressly named by the university.  Denard is untouchable outside of official license.  He's the face of the athletic department.

How about the "shoelace" is part of the English language and can't be copyrighted defense?

A lot of those shirts taken off a year ago were borderline but I could kind of get it. "Shoelace", not borderline at all.  There's not even a football reference on there.

I have to say I'm impressed by this stance.  The "Shoelaces" shirt was cool, because anything that alludes to Denard Robinson is cool.  Howeva, it's not cool enough to put yourself in opposition with the university/AD.  Harmony is certainly best.

FWIW, I love the shirts that are "Mgo" specific.  People will see me wearing my Muppets T-shirt while walking with my 3 year old daughter and they will think we are total Jim Henson fanboys.

Strong work on the shirts.

To the University that you can't TM a common usage word because it's a nickname for a player who's likeness you have shakey legal ground to even represent and you can't own words like "Shoelace", "A-Train", "Magic", or anything else.

<br>However, the smart thing to say is "thank you sir, may I have another."

The maize on the first 3 looks a little gold to me.  I prefer my corn (and my shirts) to be a little more yellowish like the base color on the Unverified Voracity shirt.

The Simpson's one is inspired. Everyone get one before the Cease and Desist letter comes in boys and girls! (Him wearing the Ohio shirt is genius).

I'm not sure how much play the hiring of a defensive coordinator's going to get. Especially when it was a week earlier the HEAD coach was hired, and that seems like a slap in the face to him.  But then, the whole concept would then be a pretty big slap to Rich, and we can't have that either. (Especially around here).

As the token "avertise for the Blog" shirt goes, UV is a good one.  I feel there might be a lot of explaining that would have to go with it, but it could be a conversation starter.

MANBALL strikes me as a strange though, since it's a concept Brian promoted, abhors, and technically may have NOTHING to do with Michigan Football. It almost seems like Brian is making people pay him to make fun of them.  And might have limited understanding out in the real world. Be careful where you wear that one....it might have a whole different meaning, if you get what I'm sayin'.
